Outcry of Buddhist Facebook users over monk’s alleged sex chat

By The Nation

Buddhist Facebook users in the North have called on authorities to investigate and find a man believed to be a Buddhist monk who has been exposed in a leaked chat allegedly arranging to buy sex from a teenage boy.

The chat has been widely shared on Facebook.

The chat purportedly records a conversation between the teenager and the man, who is believed to be a monk from a temple in Nan. The boy sent a naked photo to the man and offered sexual services for Bt1,000.

The chat was conducted in the northern dialect of Thai.

The man told the boy to park his car outside a pavilion, but when the boy told him that his friend would bring him to the temple and pick him up later, the man asked whether he could also buy sexual services from the friend.

When the boy said no, the man replied he would have sex with them both.

The dean monk in Wiengsa district of Nan province has appointed a fact finding committee to investigate after a post about a monk buying sex service with a boy went viral on the internet.

The dean monk Phra Khru Sirinantavit’s action came after a video clip showing a monk was chatting on Facebook with a boy about a sex deal. The boy agreed to meet the monk at the temple.

The monk was later located at a temple in Wiengsa district of Nan.

Bum bandit Monks. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought i had herd it all of them.

but they just keep adding,   more low life behavior to the extensive list to date.

Lord Buddha would be most displeased with some of the monks of Thailand.

Can't wait for the next story to top this one.

i'm sure it will be along before next Monday. :giggle:

For child abuse Just defrock or what ever they call it is enough? Wow what a faith and a country of law?

In every religion you are going to get bad apples  Look at the Catholic church and its bad priests dealing with boys. The only difference between the two is if the priest is found guilty he will go to jail  Here they get defrocked and send you on your merry  ways and in civilian life he probably commit the crime again. Thailand biggest downfall is there judicial system They have the laws but dont enforce  them and these Monks are really a law on there own

"The only difference between the two is if the priest is found guilty he will go to jail"  You must be joking. Very few priests go to jail. They are usually ignored or moved to other countries or parishes. You clearly have not being reading or watching tv. The amount of damage done as a consequence of this is that this year not a single youth or man in Ireland a bastion for the bu¥¥ers entered the priesthood.

Well In Australia a few of them are sitting in jails now But that is amazing not a single youth entered into becoming a priest Maybe time to change the rules and let Priests get married

Is there not a privacy setting on Facebook so that only the 'correspondents' can see what's being said?

I agree they should be allowed to marry. That said about 15 years ago I was at a book publishing conference in LA and on sale was a self published book called; "The Book your church does not want you to read." Im not sure if it was published perhaps not but I bought it and the statistics were more than shocking ie that over 40% of Catholic priests were suspected of or accused of child abuse and c 70% were aware of the problem yet less than 1% were charged the rest were hastily shipped out to rural parishes in South America. It was a very detailed study by a team of professors not a whimsical piece.

All these year I have been deluded into thinking monks lead lives of seclusion, meditating, fasting, praying and in general, trying to achieve enlightenment. Then I see photos of monks flying in private Lear Jets, carrying Vuton Luggage, wearing expensive shades, monks living in 10 million baht homes with maids, Mercedes and other luxury cars, now monks with computers chatting up the boys. It is beginning to sound a bit like a certain religious denomination where the men want to play with the boys in their charge. What has happened to Lord Buddha's teachings?

Still the church is burying its head in the sand and pretend this is not happening
