I am grateful for any replies. I read that in Pattaya (Chonburi) they do not acknowledge the yellow book (which is harassment compared to other offices). Being in the blue book (tabien ban) is quite rare, so I can only guess that they have to acknowledge that. It might be worth asking for a superior if they refuse at the counter. Call it a temporary license. It's indeed for two years since March 2015. A disadvantage as you may neither drive over the border nor get a Thai IDP based on temporary DL. Not sure but maybe even rent a car is not possible with it. The Expat Club checklist does not specifically refer to your case. They use "LTO" to designate the office. I don't know for sure although this is the usual route. But a person with a permanent residency would surely not need a letter from immigration. Agreed.. But the forum 'legal eagles' may clarify. I prefer to leave stuff like that to the tanai and wife.. both of which, I will never understand.
