Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan has instructed fellow Cabinet members to use an offensive strategy in performing their duties, as there was an ongoing attempt to discredit government officials by disseminating false information.

After Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Government Spokesman Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that Prawit, who chaired the meeting, had ordered ministers to work in accordance with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s instructions and as they had pledged to the PM.

“There has been mudslinging, distortion and distribution of false information to discredit government officials. We admit that some [things that are said] are true, but others are not,” Sansern said.

The deputy PM also told ministers to explain and update their work to the public, he added.

Of course ge means true information!

One senses the end is nigh for this mob, can't wait to see how Thaksin treats those who have hounded his family when he is back in the big chair.

Jesus... When they aren't lying outright, they are speaking in riddles. How is saying something true mudslinging, distortion or false information?

I used to feel the same way, but Thaksin is sleeping unless the current gang have some leverage over him. Any information about YL whereabouts? And the alleged driver? We should not forget the 'suicides' and 'accidents' that have removed some of the more prominent sources of embarrassment. They believe Buddha and a demi-god watch over them and they'll do whatever they're told to do. Think they wouldn't dare? Think again.

As you say above, the end is nigh, we know it and they know it. They fear the reaper, but this time the reaper will not be Thaksin, who appears to now have a testicular deficit.

They need a new picture for this guy, or does he permanently scowl?

Taksin will probably not be in the big chair again, but he will certainly control the marionettes. The only question is how ugly the end is going to be.

No one needs to discredit the Junta, they do a fantastic job of that all by themselves on a daily basis.

Very true.

One must not believe the information, as it is all false just to discredit, despite the fact that some of the information is true.

Deserved mudslinging I think. A little sensitivity by Prawit creeping in I think.

There has been a litany of government bungles. Here's a few.

1. Prawit let's Yingluck escape.

2. Prawit allows 200,000 illegal overstayers.

3. Prawit allows IS terrorists to infiltrate.

4. Prayut and his honchos fail to prevent lottery rorting.

5. Prayut's ministers stuff up registering of foreign workers.

6. Prayut can almost acclaim world's highest road toll.

I don't want to appear negative so here are a few successes.

1. Prayut bans lewd dancing at motor shows

2. Prayut limits number of twerks by Lamyai.

3. Prayut takes possession of gold mine from foreign investors using Article 44.

4. TAT statistics have nearly all the people in the world visiting Thailand.

5. Thailand has more hubs than any other country in the world.

Take a bow Thailand.

6. Prayuth got rid of that old, rusty plaque and replaced it with a brand new shiny one, and it brought happiness to the people.

7. Prayuth single-handedly reduced the rate of rape cases of foreign female tourists by issuing a public service announcement warning the "beautiful" ones not to wear bikinis. Ugly ones need not worry as no one will rape them anyway.

8. Prayuth mastered frog language in a matter of hours.

9. Prayuth has saved the territorial sovereignty of the country by approving the purchase of a submarine.

10. Prayuth has written two chart-topping songs and is an accomplished poet.

11. Prayuth has solved Thailand's flooding problems by pointing out that people should by boats (no one can challenge such wisdom).

12. Prayuth solved Thailand's household debt crisis by sagely warning people of the dangers of going shopping.

13. Prayuth has correctly pointed out that his political opponents are practicing black magic to thwart his plans to bring happiness to the people.

For the love of all things decent, more stories about Yingluck with her face and less of this creeps picture.

Another general believing he told the public nothing but the truth over the last years.

I read it as that they admit some of what is been said is based on true facts and other things are untrue and that would be distribution of false information. You know they doctored tapes of Abisith before so I would not put it past them to put out false information. I would not put it past the government either to lie.

You can't really put it past the junta not to lie because they do, repeatedly.

That is what i said too in my last sentence.. only i call them goverment you call them junta.

But fact is in this country a lot of false information by both sides is spread to stir up things to get their supporters in the right frame of mind to protests and get angry. I am actually glad they shut down the red and yellow channels. There was a lot of fake news being aired there. Too bad its like this you got press that is bias in many countries but I feel those channels went even furthers. I mean the doctored Abisit video is a good example. I am sure you could find something like that on the yellow channel too. (i remember red incidents more I am sure you remember the faults of the yellows).

I have no problem with news agencies that are a bit bias but if too much and if its fake and doctored news only to stir up violence and protests it crosses the line in my opinion.

What you said about the junta lying I am sure it has happened, I certainly don't trust all of what they say.

But fake news and doctored news are wrong especially if it stirs up violence.

Unfortunately it is the way of the world now and I don't see how it will or can be eradicated. All one can do is read the same story from several different sources.

I think news should be backed up by figures and facts and its good and bad that anyone with an internet account can make and post news. It could help to have good access to news.. but on the other hand it makes spreading false news easier.  I prefer to read news from the main papers not from alternative sources as i feel there is more credibility there.

Agreed. You can pretty much discount anything online which screams 'THIS IS THE REAL TRUTH BEHIND...'. No it isn't. Still, when a big story comes out I tend to go to the likes of France24, Al Jazeera, the BBC, Arirang, etc and see what their take is.

And of course for real unbiased news we have the KCNA...?
