Humpy
''Passenger van safety scrutinised '' ...... a bit like checking the seat belts on the roof of the school buses, the rear lights of mud covered lorries, the windscreens festooned with stickers and the bunches of ecclesiastical nick- nacks hanging from the rear view mirrors, the mirror tinted and all tints of windows, school kids three to a bike to and from school...no helmets.no insurance, no licence . Will the safety record get better, no, not until the police do their job. Perhaps some driving tips on TV might be an idea to highlight the actions of the brain dead gofers behind the wheel and their lack of knowledge of the highway code......... what highway code ? waders123
Mandatory autonomous car technology for all passenger vans and cars that are for hire by 2030. Along with the GPS systems for monitoring, you could reduce traffic deaths substantially.

I certainly agree with you. However, in developing countries' driver, education and training programs are not generally a priority. Whereas technology of this sort could force the hand of the government to pursue tightening up on their traffic laws and improving driver ed/training. Khun Paul
I agree that in the WESTERN WORLD driver training is noit a priority however LAWS are enforced across the board, including the TACHOGRAPH , which if fitted correctly and used would stop the hours many drivers have to work also tightening up and enforcement of laws regarding maintainance etc, would also go a long way. BUT HERE drivers get experience mainly by driving on roads already filled with drivers who have no clue that includes the Police to the humble motorcycle driver. The lawlessness and complete in some cases oblivion to any laws creates the culture of it does not matter. Coupled with the Governments inaction over the state of enforcement. So the public think no=one cares neither do we. Edited November 28, 2017 by Khun Paul Correcting grammar.
tirekicker
Many of these minivans are modified to supposedly improve performance with boy race add-ons and oversize wheels and tires driven by aggressive impatient idiots leaving a trail of mayhem. Katia
I feel like news stories in Thailand are circular. We see the same ones every month or two but nothing ever changes. "Passenger vans need to become safer/be banned after horrific accident." "Tourists will be fingerprinted and have a body cavity search to get a sim card, for 'safety'." "Gov't looks into ways to reduce flooding." "Vendors are taken off the streets." "All sex bars in Pattaya will be closed down."
