Indecency case plods on without accused doctor

Police have interviewed 15 people over allegations that a doctor at a Nakhon Ratchasima private hospital sexually harassed 11 factory workers during routine check-ups.

 

But the doctor, whose name is being withheld pending the investigation, has yet to offer his side of the story.

 

The doctor insisted in an earlier phone interview with The Nation that he was innocent.

 

Through his lawyer, the doctor on Sunday secured a second postponement in his meeting with police – until December 3 – saying he remained busy with patient examinations.

 

Pol Lt Colonel Trakarn Saksrikrom of Sung Noen Police Station said on Monday a second summons would be issued for the doctor to present himself if he failed to appear on December 3.

 

He would then be required to appear within seven days to acknowledge a criminal charge of committing an indecent act. If he does not appear, an arrest warrant would be issued.

 

The charge is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years and/or a Bt20,000 fine.

 

The 11 workers from the Siam Fukoku factory filed a complaint alleging the doctor needlessly touched their breasts during check-ups on November 17.

 

Each had gone alone in turn into the examination room and said the doctor unzipped their uniform tops and felt their breasts. The check-up was not supposed to include an examination for signs of breast cancer.

He was kindly going to see them Sunday. But something must have come up, so his lawyer deferred the meeting to 3/12. So kind of them to try and fit it into their busy schedules. No doubt the BiB will be most grateful if he bothers to show up on the 3rd.

 

After all, it's only an allegation he sexually assaulted 11 ladies. Hardly important, he is a doctor you know.

Ah, and if he's found to be guilty of sexual misconduct, the people who've been examined by him since the accusations would surely have the right to sue the hospital and the police for gross negligence.

such disregard for the legal system here; along with other well-documented failings, the thai 'legal system', such as it is, holds this place back

It seems the Japanese company they work for is backing them up and piling on pressure to get this done.

Oh oh. A Japanese owned company is likely to not accept BS, I think.

"Mystery doctor brings out the breast in all his patients."

One or two saying he groped them, maybe a question, but eleven women saying he fondled them. No doubt in my mind at least. .

Where else but LoS could an accused defer an interview with the police? No wonder the RTP is so often a laughing stock.

Doctors? What other profession would allow you to stick your finger up a woman’s ass, after only knowing her for 20 seconds.
