BANGKOK, 30th November 2017 (NNT) – Khlong Chan Credit Union is pressing the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to released 3.8 billion baht it froze after the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) decided in October that the money should be used to pay damages.

Chairman of the Khlong Chan Credit Union Rehabilitation Advisory Padej Moongthanya, led a group of 20 people to the DSI to call for an update on the 3.8 billion baht it froze as part of an investigation into money laundering.

Padej mentioned that AMLO had circulated a memo on October 31, 2017 saying that the credit union could access the funds to deal with legal issues and asked the DSI to unfreeze the money so that it could be used to repay union members.

The department explained however that the sum must still be vetted for any involvement in criminal or civil cases, adding that any money involved in criminal cases will have to remain in the legal system until a verdict is handed down. The DSI is to discuss the matter with AMLO at a meeting on December 13.

That 3.8 billion might be a bit lighter due to a 'finder's fee'. From one set of criminals to.......well, the DSI.
