Widespread flooding is still ravaging nine provinces in the South, affecting 255,519 households, and five people have died in flood-related incidents, said Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department on Saturday (Dec 2).

Mr Chayapol said that during the period between Nov 25-Dec 2 the northeast monsoon has brought heavy and caused widespread flooding in 10 southern provinces: Pattani, Yala, Songkhla, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun, Narathiwat, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani and Krabi, affecting 4,338 villages with 805,220 people in 101 districts.

However, the situation has eased off in Krabi, but nine provinces are still hit by inundation.

Water levels have dropped today in Hat Yai's U-Taphao river and the flood relief canals; down from Yellow flag back to Green. We've had 586mm of rain in just the last 7 days, it's been raining pretty much without let up for two weeks, and November saw double the annual monthly average rainfall of 450mm with some 920mm total.

Thankfully Hat Yai's flood mitigation measures have worked, fingers crossed we remain flood free for the rest of this monsoon season.
