Is my Non B Valid after losing job

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I just recently lost my job after my school suddenly shut down and I was hoping someone might know if my Non-B visa is still valid or if it is dependent upon my employment.

I had not yet received a work permit, was still in the middle of the application process for it when the school closed and am just on the initial 90 day Non-B visa. I am American, 27 years old. If you need any more info let me know, thanks for the help!

Your 90 day permit to stay isn't linked to your job so you can stay until the 90 days expires.

Great to know and thanks for your reply elviajero. That is at least one thing i don't need to worry about then!

Wish you all the best in rapidly finding a new job.

Yes your visa is still valid.

I am going to take the liberty of clarifying a few things that almost certainly do not matter now, but could be important for your understanding in the future.

  1. I expect you had a single entry Non B visa. It is now used, and questioning whether the end of your employment would cancel it is not meaningful.
  2. If you happened to have a multiple entry Non B visa (which is now rare) it would remain valid.
  3. You are now in Thailand on a 90-day permission to stay that has not been extended. This remains valid, regardless of your employment status.
  4. If you had an extension of your permission to stay based on working, this would cease to be valid when your employment ceased.

All depending on if you B visa is link to the employer.

If not then you have time till 90 days passed.

If it is linked then your visa is expired.

A non-b visa is not linked to being employed. He can stay until his 90 day entry ends.

Because what I wrote was my first hand case experience and in fact just tell you my case.

You have to look at the stamp and the page what they wrote in thai thenn you know if it is linked or not.

The 90 day permit to stay from a non-immigrant 'B' visa is not linked to the employer/job/WP. If you don't take up employment during the 90 days, OR stop/lose a job during the 90 days, it does not affect your 90 day permit to stay. You can continue to stay in the country until the end of the 90 days.

If you have extended a 90 day permit to stay based on your employer/job/WP, and stop/lose that job, the permit to stay becomes invalid and you have to leave the country.
