Thai Embassy issues travel warning for Jerusalem

The Thai embassy in Tel Aviv has advised Thais in Israel to avoid crowded areas in Jerusalem and closely monitor the situation in a wake of violent demonstrations against US President Donald Trump’s statement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The embassy’s warning was posted on its Facebook page on Dec 7. It said that beginning from the night of Dec 6, there were violent demonstrations at various Palestine communities in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah cities in the West Bank and Gaza.

It said the violent demonstrations were expected to drag on until Friday.

I think there are over 20,000 Thai workers (mostly in agriculture) in Israel. Last round of fighting one of them was killed by a mortar shell or a rocket. Think the warning is more standard issue, guess pretty much all embassies will be doing that.

Yep hardly surprising  Not only Thai i would imagine

well done Mr Trump!!!

Too much money involved by the jews in America,

now give the Palestinians true recognition Mr Trump.

Give them full rights at the same table,

you want justice , you want peace,

gez the majority of the world want peace,

both sides are guilty of heinous crimes,

but you have to start with a level playing field,

All my life lived, so far,  I have never been more frustrated with so called powerful intelligent men and ladies who can not bring this cycle of hatred and senseless deaths on both sides to a halt,

Now I know from where I sit what a really bad judgement call this president has made, one of many, in his short time as the big banana.

This president reminds me of a quote by Confucius

' A man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, a man who does not ask the question is a fool for life"

Why would anyone want peace, when there's so much profit to be made from war?

Dude, why ever did you feel the need to lead with an antisemitic trope?
You couldn't help yourself, eh?

It didn't even make sense in the context of the first sentence.

Sad.

You spelt 'jew' in lower caps. Now my computer is telling me that is a incorrect spelling, as it should be Jew. But you did get Palestinians correct?

Then your quote appears to be supportive of Trump, as a fool for a minute. The change of site for the Embassy has been on the cards for the last 20 years or so. Maybe your hatred got in the way when trying to marry your quote?

Why does it matter where the Embassy is put? What are the pro's and con's to this move, which I don't know. Israel has all its political and legal offices in Jerusalem?  Why doesn't Palestine move their offices closer to Jerusalem?

This is a complex question, and no side is squeaky clean. I haven't got answers, but when posting best to not let your prejudices hit the key board.

Being pedantic about spelling , well I guess your right in a free speech forum

It matters about the embassy because now the USA has declared recognition of Jerusalem as the Israel 's capital, and with full knowledge Trump knows the Palestinian's want to call Jerusalem their own capital if they have a legitimate recognised state.

My Prejudices, are if you read my post are about a fair playing field, and if I have a prejudice opinion , I have the right to express them, this is a free speech site , and if I break the rules then my post would be removed.

The Palestinians only want Jerusalem because it is so important to the Jews. Jews have been living in Jerusalem continuously for three thousand years. They have constituted the largest single group of inhabitants there since the 1840s. Jerusalem contains the Western Wall of the Temple Mount - the holiest site in Judaism and Jerusalem was never the capital of any Arab entity. In fact, it never served as a provincial capital under Muslim rule. The Palestinians are never going to get more than a small part of it and likely not that.

20,000 eh?  Yeah I just read up on several websites that say Thais provided the vast majority of agricultural labor. And there are loads of articles about abuse, slavery, and other not nice things

I don't know they are the "vast majority" of agricultural labor in Israel. But probably the "vast majority" of foreign workers employed there as agricultural labor. And yes, there were issues with abuse, rights not provided etc. Don't think that its as wide spread or as bad, otherwise they'd go work elsewhere and the embassy would be sure to issue a warning (as happens every now and then with regard to Thais working in other countries).

The important sites, of Jews, Muslims, and Christians, How many times this land has changed ownership in the past, has and does have a bearing on why all the issues keep arising.

Its not pedantic Lee, its about not acknowledging a race with a capital letter, even when your spell check underlines it. That sets the tone of your bias.

No one has reported your post as this is how most are removed. But sometimes when you have free speech no matter if there is bias to the content, you also get to hear what you said. Others make their own mind up.

Unfortunately it matters a lot, because this area is a very contentious bit of real estate, and actually green lighting the move is akin to a red flag to a bull.

this move invests more US support for Israel “ownership” of jeruselum... provides increased military and political support to that city/state, while slapping Palestine.

the Middle East is already causing enough problems.... why start a new one right now..... the embassy was fine were it was and everyone knew moving it would cause more problems.... ah... right.... cue Donald Trump.

<deleted>.... and you think this move will bring things back in control?

its inflammatory.... nothing more.

the international community does not recognize jeruselum as Israel’s capital and has deemed any occupation of eastern jeruselum as illegal... that is... all excepting the USA ( and Czech Republic ?)

so.... this is an overt act of aggression towards non Jews. By the leader of the free world for Hells sake!

proof positive that the leader of the free world needs to be changed.

I would have offered up the Aussie PM, but he kinda screwed the pooch earlier this week. May and brexit... eff me... macron or Mercle?... mmm....

maybe it’s time to turn to the baltic states for leadership, after all, they do seem to be outperforming everyone in almost everything

Jews , jew when I write on an apple it does not diferenciate between capital spelling, Your presumption on my biased  opinion, is most unwarranted, you do not know me at all,

I have no axe to grind with any peoples or race on this Earth , I treat people as they treat me, given that I have worked all around the world and have maintained frienships with all manner of ethnic peoples, with so many  different relgious  beliefs , having many a debate on Israel with bedouins I befriended in Saudi , as well as Arabs in Egypt,

Having been to both Mekkah, and  Medina , living and travelling  from Damascus to Amman and then on to Jerusalem, I have seen and talked so much to so many people,

But you want to fixate on a capital letter !

what a wonderful world.

I criticized you for your use of a classic antisemitic trope, the Jews and MONEY thing, in your first sentence, totally out of context, and without acknowledging the truth -- that the groups trump is PANDERING to with this move include only a percentage of American Jews (with a large segment opposing) and MORE IMPORTANTLY, far right wing fundamentalist CHRISTIAN evengelicals, that comprise a massively larger VOTING block than even all of American Jewry.

But who do you think you're fooling. Everyone gets that you INTENTIONALLY lower cased Jew in the context of your post. I get it.

I lower case trump all the time with full intent to total disrespect. But don't think readers are so stupid. It doesn't wash.

Dude, I'd respect you more if you were HONEST about your anti-Jewish bias. Trying to deny it with lame excuses after you fully revealed it doesn't give you any credibility.

Trump's statement does not actually recognize all of Jerusalem as belonging to Israel, nor does the USA consider the Israeli occupation in general as legitimate. One of the main troubles with Trump's statement (apart from making it in the first place), is that it is not phrased clearly enough. Doubt that even if it was, reactions would be different, though.
