Do you transfer stamps to a new passport

Featured Replies

I have nearly 7 pages in my UK passport 6 full pages and 1 stamp on 1 page.

My passport Is full of tourist visas and extensions.

It takes 3 pages per run 2 pages for the visa stickers and a page for the stamps includeing the extension.

So I could theoretically go on 2 more visa runs. But I think I am cutting it fine here so I would only go on one. Especially as I don't know if Thailand or loas has any rules on how many pages you need to enter the country.

I've never got a new passport outside the uk. I don't really want a visa for Thailand as soon as I get it. So I always planned to do a border run just before my passport needs changing.

My visa runs out on the 15th. what I am thinking now is instead of extending it go on a border hop to Cambodia. Then get a new passport. This way I don't have any visa stickers in my new passport and I haven't used any of my 2 border runs for 2018 just in case I need them.

Am I over thinking this do they even transfer your visa to your new passport?

Or do you use your old passport to exit and I don't have to worry about this?

Should I extend my visa then do 1 more run next year and get a new passport?

Thinking about it now I don't know how long it takes to get a new passport and I haven't made a appointment with the British Embassy or wherever need to go so I am not sure if I will get my passport back in time before I need to leave the country or extend it.

My ex Filipino girlfriend reckons they won't even let me enter the country again because I've got to many visas and need to fly. I sure she is just getting confused with border runs but just thought I would check why I am writing this. She also reckons I will only get 15 days but I am sure it 30 for me.

They don't transfer visas. They only do a annotation of it and your old passport number on one stamp.

If you don't have an extension of your current stay most offices will not do the transfer. You can do it on departure from the country.

If you  have enough room I would suggest you od that. Immigration will find a space to do their stamps and that includes the extension stamp.

Start the passport renewal process now, by making an appointment with VFS at the Trendy Building in Bangkok. See https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/overseas/information/thailand/renew/adult for more information on the process.

As you suggested. making a border hop for a fresh visa exempt entry, before submitting the passport application, is a good idea. Usually, the passport renewal will only take 2-3 weeks, but a fresh entry will give you the option of a 30-day extension if the renewal process drags out longer than expected.

Is that counted as a visa by any immigration staff?

Assuming it is so I should extend my visa get one more in loas. Then go on a visa run extended that. Then do a border crossing to Cambodia then extend that straight away (If immigration will let me.) that way I have 60 days to get my new passport which should allow for any delay with post etc. And I won't have any visas in my brand new passport.

Sorry if I understand correctly I can still extend my Visa after applying for a new passport. So they don't take away the old one while you are applying?

Correct. The UK passport authority makes an exception for Thailand, in allowing you to retain the old passport during the application process. They do so because, legally, you are required to have your passport available here at all times. The passport is canceled within UK's system for travel purposes (though some have still used it successfully for travel in the region, a risky move) but you can do anything necessary with the old passport at Thai immigration.

i got a new passport last year from trendy and it only took ten days from my appointment to pick up. i thought it was a pretty decent timescale

Looks like all you need is room and no more. Also I just found out you can get a e-visa for Cambodia so that will save a page.

juice777 had a great idea that will save some space on your PP. Please see:

P.S. Op, guess you mean Laos?

Sorry I do mean Laos

I just found that website I wouldn't recommend anyone using it as they charge $63 plus $36 for the visa.

On Google I read its 30 for the visa plus 7 extra for service.

I will probably do this as it will save a page in my passport. And I suspect less hassle at the border.

Yeah that looks like a better website thank

Also I just realised that If I factor in 2 trips to Bangkok I am looking at about $6 a page for my passport anyway. So I can't see any reason not to get a e-visa and save a page.

Too many changes are quite irritating, but you should ask if they add pages. There was  a time where the Americans, but then also the British passport holders were told that they don't add more pages into a passport.

Why would they transfer all your marriage visa stamps? The current one, yes.

Immigration do not transfer visas. They only do a annotation of the one you used for your last entry.

They only transfer stamps for entry, extensions of stay, re-entry permit and etc.

They normally do the stamp transfer while you wait.

If you have a valid multiple entry visa issued by an embassy or consulate you have to use both passports on entry to the country to use the visa in the old passport.

Just to let you know I just got my new renewed British passport on Monday. It was ready for collection exactly 2 weeks after I applied. Also, I turned up early for my application appointment and was seen straight away. It was very quiet there.

if u live in or near CM you can go to thaivisa assist and they can get a new passport issued for you without u having to travel to BKK twice...the fee was 11,000 baht but that includes the British govt fee of approx 6000 baht for the  new passport....5000 baht sure beats having to travel to BKK twice...i did mine recently and it was back in under three weeks
