UNESCO Assistant Director-General voices support for Thai education reform

BANGKOK, 13 December 2017 (NNT) – The Assistant Director-General for Education of UNESCO has paid a courtesy call on Thailand’s Minister of Education and expressed his hope for a concrete reform of Thai education.

Education Minister Teerakiat Jaroensettasin received Mr Qian Tang, Assistant Director-General for Education of UNESCO, who paid him a visit prior to the end of his term. The minister said it was his honor to represent Thailand in welcoming a United Nations delegate, adding that the Ministry of Education had long engaged in close cooperation with UNESCO and supported its work.

Mr Teerakiat used this opportunity to clarify Thailand’s education policy, particularly in regard to educational reform.

The outgoing Assistant Director-General for Education of UNESCO said he was fully supportive of such a change in Thailand and expressed his wish to see the Kingdom take a leading role in the reform of education within the region.

So the  Assistant Director-General for Education of UNESCO got to meet this week's education minister. I hope he was given a good tour of facilities and culturally important sights as part of his tour as these will be more relevant to the future of education in Thailand than who he spoke to.
