Dept of Highways to create 5-10 yr road safety plan

BANGKOK, 14 December 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Highways has been tasked with creating a 5-10 year plan on road safety, using the latest construction technology.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith spoke during a seminar with department officials, stressing the importance of improving the safety of the country's transportation infrastructure. He said greater transportation safety would enhance Thailand's economic stability and competitiveness.

The minister added that the Department of Highways must adhere to international road safety standards to reduce accidents and called for investment in the latest building technology. He also urged the department to commission roadways in line with the Thailand 4.0 development agenda.

The Department of Highways has been assigned to draft a 5-10 year plan on road safety that addresses the risks of natural disasters, such as mudslides, road subsidence and broken bridges.

Regarding the Bangkok - Nong Khai high-speed railway project, the department will begin laying pillars along the 3.5-kilometer stretch between Klang Dong and Pang Asok on December 21st. Construction is expected to take no more than six months, with other phases of the project to commence soon after.

That's nice.

Let me know when the gold paint is dry.

I'll hang it on the wall.......with the others.

That's one brilliant Transport Minister! The last one was most likely killed in a car or motorbike accident.

I got a better plan than him.

First step teach the crazy folk how to drive properly, make every driver sit a proper driving test.

Get the lazy police up off their fat behinds to enforce road safety.

Suddenly i woke up, it will never happen, ohh well back to dreaming.

Another load of utter rubbish from idiots who clearly don't have the first clue. While I agree the roads could benefit from being of better quality and construction, that is not going to help save lives. Probably the opposite actually, as the local idiots will simply try to drive faster.

Colin has it right, teach them to drive and enforce the laws. That will probably prove to be a momentous task though, as Thais don't like being told what to do and will moan and bleat about everything introduced that would be saving their lives, like the pick up truck laws that lasted about three days.

Three days ?   Didn't last a single day around these parts !

Unless the police actually due their job and enforce road safety laws, nothing is ever going to happen in LoS. BiB much prefer to set up road blocks for minor infringements, easy money, forget the hassle of doing a real job like policing....

Yesterday the Police had set up the "NAB THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS WITHOUT HELMETS" at a busy intersection:... I was in line for a red light going the other way... Several young people were pulled off their motorcycles and were paying the no helmet fines or no license fines...  A young guy on one of the new ninja bikes and no helmet was motioned to pull over.. He did not but continued... One of the tail end Charley cops tried to grab his handle bars and make him stop.. The kid just increased his speed and left the scene.. The cop went to the sidewalk shaking his hand as if he was hurt... Light changed to green and nothing else I could see happened.. All this surprised me on many different levels..

The main natural disaster is Thai road users, whatever from of transport they claim to be in control of.

Excellent. Another 5-10 year plan that will be forgotten about in a month, never to be heard of again.

The hub of failed plans.

All plans fall on the assumption of having common sense and people who know what they're doing. When filling a glass jar, put the big rocks in first, not the pebbles.

Bad form to snigger I suppose... though it happens a lot. Sometimes the cops win, many times not. No point taking the number...

5-10 year plan. In other words, nothing to start until 2023. Excellent!
