An Algerian man was arrested on arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Sunday night on an outstanding warrant for allegedly stealing Bt25,000 in cash from a British tourist’s bag at the airport in mid-August.

Lamine Serrif Amara, 37, was placed under arrest at Immigration on a warrant issued by Samut Prakan Provincial Court over the theft last summer.

Amara maintained his innocence, but officials say he is the same man seen in a CCTV recording of the incident in August, in which cash was taken from a backpack in an airport restaurant, placed on the floor near the table of its British owner.

The suspect was pretending to be a customer sitting at the next table and used his luggage to hide the victim’s backpack from the owner’s sight. He searched the backpack and removed the cash without the owner noticing, then got up and left.

Well done RTP rapid response unit.

The accused wasn't in the country, how would you suggest that he was arrested any quicker?
