BANGKOK, 19 December 2017 (NNT) – Thailand's Ministry of Commerce is expecting improved exports and increased foreign investment in Thailand after the United States adjusted the Kingdom’s status in terms of intellectual property protection to its best in 10 years.

Thailand's Minister of Commerce, Sonthirat Sonthijirawong, said that the United States’ decision to move Thailand from its Priority Watch List for intellectual property infringement to its Watch List has given Thailand an image boost in terms of trade and investment, especially for industries to do with innovation and technology such as automobiles and bio-technology.

He said the development is in line with the Thailand 4.0 agenda, which seeks economic development through investment in intellectual property, pointing out over 100 billion baht has been requested in assistance for such businesses.

The Ministry of Commerce is to continue combatting intellectual property violations through public relations, enhancement of laws and appointment of inspectors. It is seeking an integrated effort with the ultimate goal of removing Thailand from the US watch list completely.

While corruption rules in Thailand the likelihood of the removal from the list is slim.

Let's hope they are not looking at the Prawit Watch List
