VISA run from ED to tourist VISA Mae Sai

Featured Replies

I have a question regarding the VISA run to Mea Sai. I have been studying for the last semester here in Thailand with two times an ED visa. Now, my study has come to an end, I want to travel through Thailand. My VISA expires (single ED VISA) on 31st of December, can I do the trip to Mea Sai on the 27th of December and get a tourist VISA? Will this be excepted to go from ED to Tourist VISA? I really hope that someone can help me with answering this question, as there is so many misleading information on the internet.

There is no embassy or consulate where you can apply for a tourist visa on the Myanmar side of the border at Mae Sai.

You could do a border hop to get a 30 day visa exempt entry if you qualify for one at Mae Sai. There is no restriction on getting one after a non-ed visa entry.

Thank you very much for your quick response. This really helps me a lot. Do you might know if I need any further paperwork for this?

Nothing more than your passport and 500 baht or $10 US to pay for the Myanmar border pass.

Hey ubonjoe, I'm going to try to do the same thing as Romee. What do you mean "if you qualify for one at Mae Sai"? What qualifications are needed?

Thanks!

You have to be from a country that qualifies for a visa exempt entry.
