More than 700 houses and three schools have been affected by storms over the past three days in Preah Sihanouk province’s Prey Nob district. District governor Sar Kakada said the storms took place from Monday to yesterday across three communes.

No one was killed or injured but 707 houses were damaged, with several being completely destroyed. “Seasonal storms are common, but the winds coming off Kamchay Mountain were particularly strong over the past three days,” he said.

Mr Kakada said 111 houses were affected in Teuk Laork commune, 210 houses in Samaki commune and 386 houses in Teuk Thla commune. “It is lucky that no one was injured or died in the storms,” he said. “We are continuing to tell our people to be careful. We have told them to evacuate their homes in case of strong winds.”
