Former SEA Games gold medalist Sasithorn Rattanasri died in a car accident during a trip to Chiang Mai for a tournament.

Sasithorn who was part of the 13th SEA Games women’s 4x100m relay team in Bangkok in 1985 was travelling with many athletes for the IDEMITSU Grand Prix when a truck crashed into their coach in Manorom district, Chai Nat on Thursday morning.

Sasithorn, a coach of the Amateur Athletics Association of Thailand, was the only casualty while other passengers seven athletes had minor injuries.

Sasithorn, 50, also won women’s 800m in the SEA Games when she was still known as Sasithorn Jantharanuhong.
