andynyc2003
My wife brought a townhome in Sriracha back in 2010. Since we are not living in Thailand at that time, so we used her sister’s name to get a mortgage for the unit, but we paid the down payments and all monthly payment. Now I want to paid off the mortgage, but I want to change the ownership back to my wife ‘s name before I do so. Is there a way to avoid paying transfer taxes? Delight
Family ownership does not enter into it. Its a transfer and as such will attract transaction /transfer charges. Countries where concessions do exist- the concession is typically limited to transfers between spouses . There may be away to protect yourself and your wife -without an actual transfer. If I had your dilemma -for cetain I would talk with a lawyer Edited December 24, 2017 by Delight Spelling
