Hi guys n gals,

I want to go through that process of getting parental rights where my child and partner sign a statement declaring me as the father.

Only problem is, my local Amphur has never heard of such a thing.

I am trying to find a copy of this document online, but with no luck.

Anyone know where I can download a copy of this document?

Thanks

What name did she put on the Birth certificate FruitPud ?

There used to be a law firm that answered questions for T.V Readers, it was great but they moved on, Their webb site mentions "Can I legitimize my child" questions, maybe you can just pop into one of their offices and get a form--

** This is not a recommendation---I have never used them

Maybe what I did will help (assisting a family member).

I went to the local family court, found a lawyer there. We went to see the judge a month later and explained we wanted a certificate of paternity. A letter was sent to the mother, giving her 4 weeks to contest paternity. She didn't dispute as it happens but if she had, the next step would have been a DNA test plus possible police investigations in the village where they had lived together.

After four weeks we went to another court with lawyer and got the paternity document. After 5 weeks we were back in family court to get right of custody (mother again given time to dispute) and THEN went to the amphur where they demanded another document, but finally we got the papers needed.

Legal fees ~฿47 000 plus a lot of time. We were lucky, if contested it would have cost a lot more.

Do it yourself? I don't think so.

If you want copies of the docs I can send per PM

Christ........you must be in deepest backwater Isaan where no farang has walked before if the amphur has never heard of it.

To be honest, I think he or she is pulling your leg - legitimization of a child's relationship to a father who is/was not married to the child's mother at the time of birth is a common procedure here.

I think the document you're after is called a Kor Ror Sip et 11 (eleven) and I'm quite sure that it's actually the amphur that provides it when a family court rules in favour of the father gaining parental rights over the child.

Your child must be of sufficient age to understand what he or she is signing.

Some amphurs need the child to be a minimum of 6 or 7 years of age.

Failing that, you have to go to court
