The director general of the Department of Probation has released the figures for driving offence that have winded up going to court after the seven deadly days of new year.

It showed that despite anti drink driving campaigns there were more drunks than ever on Thai roads.

Prasan Mahaleetrakun said that there were 3,841 serious accidents that killed 423 people.

In total there were 6,677 cases that wound up in court. Of these 6,030 involved drink driving or a little over 90%.

Most of the rest were intoxication with drugs.

Worst locations for offenders were Surin with 448 cases, Bangkok with 354 and Mahasarakham with 269.

It was found that out of the drunks on the roads 99 were people who had offended in the same manner in the 2015 to 2017 period.

comes as no surprise, there is no deterrent here in this country, same goes for the no helmet law

It would be nice to see what fines, punishments  were given

out to see if the Government is really interested in curbing deaths

though DUI.

Sounds like they need to get help from AA.

The no helmetdrivers only harm themselves in case of an accident.

The drunks and selfish ones who drive against traffic are murderers.

The police does nothing at all to stop it, This is Thailand. They only sit in their tent watching tv.

Where are the stats from the 7-7-7 campaign?

In my country if impaired and caught..no driving for one year a big fine. Insurance goes up big time. Caught with out insurance and it's $5000 fine. Have to install a breath analyzer interlock to start your car after the one year suspension.  And you have to pay.for the calibration. All told when you are done it will cost you $25000. Caught a second time you are toast for driving.  So saying all that with the lax laws here it will not change unless they are serious and get tough on offenders.

Thailand, the Ka-ka capital of the world.

It occurred to me, the other evening, as the peaceful night air was soured by croonings from the nearby karaoke cafe, that one or two of these would-be Ed Sheerans would be enjoying another 'ka' moment - the kamikaze one - as they risked all, by proving to their pals how well they could drive, after half a bottle of Regency, two pints of lager and a packet of crisps.

Does 'ka-ka' mean anything in Thai? 'Yes-yes', maybe, if from a woman, but perhaps 'no-no' would be better . . . for my sleep, at least.

Thanks for the stats but what are you doing about it?  It is hell on the roads here in the South with almost zero Policing.

more 555 than 777

No surprise here ..........  same every day, every week, every month ............. just a different year! It shows how irresponsible Thai's are & the mindset is inbred from birth ....... sad state of affairs.

Working tirelessly towards suppressing the truth, I believe.

Ah ha... thanks... I never did get my head around the purpose of the chicken stock.... obviously it doesn’t work very well ???

Drinker, drinker, drunken punk--

Why do millions drive when drunk?

It's a costly risk to take

And might put you in a wake

There's no happiness in that

Just a box to lie in flat

Drinker, drinker, drunken punk--

When will you refuse the junk?

Who pays for the chicken stock????

The repeat offenders should feel so lucky that they are still alive.

This happened during the New Year, Thailand carnage week right?

Geezer
