webfact
Rescue on the way for senior in Sakon Nakhon shanty By The Nation An 81-year-old Sakon Nakhon woman living on her own was at the centre of an impromptu press conference on Tuesday morning when the local district chief inspected her rickety house. Khok Srisuphan district chief Ekkapop Sophon had heard from the unnamed woman’s neighbours that the house was on the verge of collapsing and took a squad of reporters to visit her in Moo 9 village in Tambon Huay Yang. The single-storey shack is made of old wooden planks, some of which have come loose. The owner was outside with her pet dog, staying warm by a fire. Ekkapop gave her a blanket, dried food and rice. She said her children had moved to other provinces long ago, but all she really wanted was to have her house fixed. Ekkapop promised to work with the local administration and arrange to either have the house repaired or build her a new one. He thought she was lucky to have neighbours in the village taking turns looking after her.
