Chao Phraya Dam reservoir runs low

Local residents near the Chao Phraya Dam reservoir in Chainat say its level is running low, prompting concerns about inadequate water for farming.

Residents of Tambon Bang Luang in Chainat’s Sapphaya district took reporters to observe the water level in the dam on Wednesday morning.

They said the water has already dropped a lot even though the dry season has not yet arrived.

The water has dropped so much that there are sand dunes for about 100 metres from the edge of the Chao Phraya River banks on both sides and there is water only in the middle of the river.

A resident, who identified himself as Wanchai, said the water dropped so quickly that the villagers could not adapt to the change.

The low level of water made it harder for them to catch fish for sale, he said. Villagers feared that during the dry season, the water would be inadequate for both consumption and farming.
