A 27-year-old man escaped with minor leg injuries after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment building in Ayutthaya while speaking to his girlfriend on the phone.

The man landed on a corrugated metal awning on the first floor rather than the ground, damaging the roof but apparently avoiding more serious injuries. He later got up and began looking for his mobile phone.

The fall happened at about 9.15pm on 23 September 2026 at an apartment beside Rojana Road in Khan Ham subdistrict, Uthai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province.

Police were alerted through the 191 emergency line and coordinated with Ayutthaya rescue workers, who went to the building to assist him.

Awning prevented ground impact

When rescue workers arrived, they found the man walking near the bottom of the apartment block. He had minor wounds to his legs and scratches caused by the metal sheeting, but was able to walk and speak normally.

He told officials he had just returned from work and was sitting on the edge of the rear fifth-floor balcony while enjoying a telephone conversation with his girlfriend.

He said he accidentally leaned back on his arms, lost his balance and fell backwards. His phone flew away in a different direction during the fall.

The man said he was initially unsure what had happened after landing and began trying to find his phone. Rescue workers arrived after someone reported that a man had fallen from the building.

The first-floor corrugated-metal awning caught his fall, preventing him from hitting the ground below. The roof was left with a hole and other impact damage.

Residents heard a loud crash

Several residents said they heard a loud bang that startled them. Some initially thought a large object had fallen, while others believed it might have been thunder.

After opening their doors, they found the man on the first-floor roof. One resident who heard the noise looked out of a window, saw him on the awning and took photographs as evidence.

Witnesses said the man then got up and made his way down from the roof, appearing not to have suffered serious injuries.

He thanked officials and members of the public who helped him, saying he was fortunate the awning had broken his fall. He said he wanted to return to his room to rest.

He declined hospital treatment

Rescue workers gave him preliminary first aid, but he declined to go to hospital, saying he was in only slight pain and was not seriously hurt. Officials nevertheless advised him to undergo a thorough medical examination, despite the apparently minor external injuries.

Lucky escape. had the fall proved fatal a suicide verdict would have been the favorite conclusion.

I had a friend that fell from 34th floor, he did not survive.

Lucky man, I guess he is head over heels for the girl, and really fallen for her.....now we need his apartment number to complete the lottery numbers.....5 for the floor, 27 for his age......
