Could these "next generation" workers not get visas under the current system ?

Or is this just some marketing hype pretending to be news?

It's a tax-trap. The hidden agenda here is tax.

Not really - I already pay Thai tax. The advantage is that my company could stop paying the law firm every year to renew my visa. It always interrupts my projects as well.

I'd love to get it, but not sure internet/telecom will be allowed under this scheme.

people who get 6250 USD per month are busy working hard and not sitting writing posts in thai visa

Well, I guess that counts BOTH of us out, doesn't it?  :)

REALLY?  You know this first-hand how?  Because only a few companies and NGO's that I am aware of have brought people to Thailand making this much money.

Perhaps because i have worked woth larger companies and ngos.

I know of a number of software decelopers in thailand who make this money for 2 week consulting contracts and have made similar in the past for less than a weeks work.

75000 usd per year is not a whole lot of money in software.

There are also thais out there easily making that salary someone is driving all those luxury cars you see on tne roads of bangkok and living in or owning those 75 thousand baht per month condos.

Sorry you dont seem to be among them.

The BOI has finally issued details on the SMART Visa application process, with applications to be accepted from 1st Feb 2018: http://www.boi.go.th/index.php?page=Smart_visa

I am definitely going to talk to my company's law firm when I see them Monday - a 4 year visa and no work permit will save the company a fortune and me a lot of time.

A long term visa with no work permit? Sounds like a nightmare. Can you imagine getting the visa then opening a bank account?

Mee work permit mai?

Or getting a post paid phone? Or a driving license? Or all the other things you get asked for a work permit for?

Also, with no work permit could you apply for permanent residence in the same way?

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought I heard something about startups before reading this post...but nothing about startups is mentioned here...most startup groups wont have 20 million to start with them self but other people will invest in them as they have something to show.

If they want to target the S-curve businesses and technologies of the future and let startups in where people is not carrying 200.000 a month salaries for the first 2-3 years...then they have to rethink their definition.

I opened a UOB bank account about 3 weeks ago in phuket.

Last year got my thai motorbike+car driving licence.

I have a DTAC post paid mobil phone several years already.

Never had or needed a work permit for all that.
