gwanoy
Looking for input on the best stocked liquor store in Chiang Mai. Thanks.
beavercreek
I think there is more protection against counterfeiting at Tesco, even though they are worthless in general.

Yes, soon we will hear from those in denial about the known and proven liquor counterfeiters in Thailand, specifically at the shops and the Maesai Duty Free, with some special comments from the trailer park Christian missionaries about the evils of alcohol. gwanoy
So no suggestions on where to locally procure liquers and/or high end whiskey's?
Rotweiler
Cross the border at Mae Sai. The dozens of duty-free shop in the Tachileik FreeTrade Zone will include stocks of the finest Scotland Whiskeys at prices WAY below those in Chiang Mai,
chingmai331
Many who do travel to Mae Sai, and Tachilek, opine that the high-end booze for sale in Burma is very adulterated. Sure the label says Johnny Walker Blue but the booze says Jim Beam.
elektrified
I've never found any well-stocked liquor stores here over the last 12 years. I was optimistic about the new Ruamchoke supermarket as they promised a good imported stock of liquor. I went there two weeks ago and was very disappointed. Over the border, like the others say. I stocked up nicely a few years ago at the large duty-free shop in Laos before crossing back into Thailand. Great selection, great prices.

CMKiwi
Agree with you Paul. Only a small shop but lots of product. Exceptional amount of smokers supplies too. Haven't been there for a while but did spot some NZ vodka there last time!
wadsy
There's a shop on the north east corner of Canal Road and Huey Kaew Road that has a decent amount of wines and spirits. Not sure on the prices though.

Rotweiler
In over 20 years shopping at Tachilei, I have never has a "fake" bottle of booze. Nor have I ever MET someone who HAS actually purchased a fake bottle of booze there. I HAVE seen a number of posts claiming to know someone who knows someone who thought his bottle purchased in Tachileik was off. And by the way, there is no duty-free in Mae Sai. 17 hours ago, chingmai331 said: Many who do travel to Mae Sai, and Tachilek, opine that the high-end booze for sale in Burma is very adulterated. CMKiwi
Luxardo also make a damn fine Sambuca. I haven't tried their coffee version yet but its sounds divine. When I use to do a lot of visa runs to Mae Sai (Prior to retirement visa/extension of stay). Sambuca was generally on the list. Only had 1 bad bottle over 2 plus years....just went to a different shop and no their supply never failed. Myers rum was another favourite....God I miss those visa runs now!!!? Rotweiler
If you are looking only at shops in CM, try Ko Wiang Phing's sin shop - booze and smokes. They are across from the Meridien Hotel right beside where Thanachat bank used to be. Good selection of cognacs and whiskeys albeit at heavily taxed Thai prices. They have been at that location as long as I can remember, so they obviously don't scam anyone.

Actually seen duty free being pedalled in Mae Sae, a few hundred metres up river from the "friendship bridge". Tout asking what is wanted and a short time later, a Burmese or Thai (probably Burmese) is wading across, booty in hand. Expect there is a margin added for service though. Was quite entertaining watching the smugglers at work.

beavercreek
Never seen that clear Tequila in Mexico...the Absolute is fake, seen it, a Russian guy in CR had a bottle and was trying g to give it away. But, the watches, DVDs, cigarettes, cigars, prescriptions are all real; so the liquor must be real too. Bwahaha. Had a Casio watch last almost three hours, once. The one I am wearing is 12 years old from Amazon...original band.

Rama
best is on the same road as the Porn Ping hotel by the river. About 80 meters or so before the entrance to the Porn Ping, on the left. Has many brands including high end. Many bars go there as they have some of the best prices in town also. They also have cuban cigars there...
