The Italian man murdered in Phichit has been identified by his son who met with police investigators yesterday.

Luca de Stefani confirmed that a graphic tattoo on a limb that survived the fire was that of his father Guiseppe de Stefani, 61.

The Italian was murdered near a reservoir in Bung Narang district on Friday. He was mutilated and set fire to in tires.

Police were expected to obtain arrest warrants yesterday for his wife and her new French lover. Both fled after attempting to burn the body.

They are believed to be hiding in a nearby province. Police said that they are still in Thailand - the French man could not leave because he is an illegal immigrant, they said.

Police have obtained other evidence such as tire tracks from the French man's car at the scene, a five liter can of gasoline from the wife's house and said yesterday that there had been a withdrawal via ATM of money from the victim's account that contained around 10,000 baht.

DNA has been taken from the son for comparison to confirm what the police have believed all along.

I do hope they find these two quickly. The suggestion that the French guy in particular couldn't leave the country is laughable. Thailand, as we have seen regularly has very porous borders.

The porous borders is only for the ones with money, not for the once that have to steal and kill to survive.

Put the scums in jail for a very long time.

I agree that these two deserve to go to jail, hopefully for life, assuming they bypass the death sentence.

However, hundreds of Burmese, Cambodians and folk from Laos, without a pot to piss in, cross without detection in and out of Thailand every day. Having traveled a fair bit, I know how to get into all three of those countries illegally, so I am sure desperate people on the run could find one if they really need to. Hence, back to my first comment, they need to find these scumbags quickly.

Dear police, how did he become an illegal immigrant?

he entered the country illegally?

people on the other thread talking the same old drivel, he's a farang they don't care, thai do what they want. the usual trollop usually from newbies strangely enough. they clearly are trying to catch them and I have absolutely no doubt that they will have within a few days. they are toast, the pair of them

Condolences and support to the son. Jeez that must have been hard to look at what was left of dad to identify him....

Obviously they know exactly where they were at the time cash withdrawal was made?

illustrates their mentality; i can leave anytime i want , legal or illegal, bit of money, wouldn't take more than a couple hours; ( and yes the bases would be covered in the escaped-to country); group of interlocked third world countries, cmon.....

Yes, he was blacklisted already and came back in somewhere on the Thai-Laos border.
