Dear Folks,

In my view, almost nobody, not the pilots, and not the air-traffic controllers, around here know ANYTHING about noise abatement, nor the many good reasons for reducing aircraft noise which is now affecting hundreds of thousands of people, especially in CM.

The noise just increases as the years pass.

The only quiet time, a once-in-a century time, was during COVID.

So, does it really take an epidemic to achieve significant noise abatement?

This is why I am pinning my hopes on Trump, once again.

I believe, from the trajectory of the Iran War, and due to the aspirations of Israel, that petroleum, and petroleum reserves in all countries…will be used up.

If we reduce the availability of petroleum by a solid 20-percent, and hopefully more, just due to a single war in Iran, and maybe due to the war in the Ukraine, will this stop the blasted noise which is now constant, and 24-hours, since 2023?

The worst offenders, IMHO, are flights heading for China and Taiwan (Taipei).

If we could get rid of the Chinese and China/Taipei flights out of CM, then I would be half-way satisfied.

I do not mind any or all flights originating from BKK to China, etc.

I object only to the Chiang Mai airport flights.

Also, what is with the seeming sudden increase of China-bound and ROC-bound flights, beginning last week?  What is happening there???

No matter what, I am just praying that Tump will put an end to this incessant and unnecessary noise.

Unless you live under either end of the runways then the noise is minimal.

(given your previous posts which indicate that you live outside the city area, I have grave doubts regarding this post of yours!)

The last 4 years I lived in old smokey was on the absolute wheels down final 1km landing approach every flight directly over my roof but oddly it was never the noise that bothered me living there in fact I quite liked it got used to it🤔

BTW, I used to live maybe 30 minutes from an airport, planes flew right over, very loudly, you had to pause your conversation.

Then I moved closer to the same airport.

Only 10 minutes away.

Quiet as a church on Monday here.

Never see any commercial flights, zilch.

Because we're not under a flight path. 😃

And, what are the negative impacts of plugging earplugs all day long, as long as the planes fly, from 6am to 4am the next day?

I think we might also be experiencing a flight-path alteration recently.

It seems that the wind-direction has radically shifted, maybe due to an unusual weather front.

This causes the planes to be taking off from a different runway.

Anyway, if Trump fixes the problem, the cost of air travel will skyrocket.

The number of flights will drop drastically.

And, anthropogenic warming risk will be be slightly lower, for a time at least.

You know:

There are entirely too many people flying around these days.

These people are extremely selfish in their behavior.

If they do not have some pressing need to fly, then they should stay on the ground, or take a ship.

What is this compulsion to travel?

I think it is a sickness.

A selfish sickness that is helping to destroy the planet and disrupting sleep for millions.

People should just remain at home, and devote the saved time and effort to improving places where they come from.

It is noisier due to planes landing from the North, instead of from the South.

Very noisy.

It is noisier due to planes landing from the North, instead of from the South.

Very noisy.

The flights are on a northbound flight path, louder taking off and echoing in the Nim/Chang Phueak urban canyons as usual, nothing unusual for that area. You probably live in a place like green hill, great place for ambient aircraft sounds.

I used to live behind Think Park in Nimman and most of the time I was under the flight takeoff path. After awhile hardly noticed the noise. Could sleep ok. Only time I really noticed was when intently watching TV and the jet noise drowned the audio out, thank god for "pause".

I moved to the area so no justification for me to complain.

Older men, however, often get less tolerant with age...

didn't you heavily insulate you home (roof/walls/windows) to be able to chill to single digit temps ?

i'd be surpsied you can hear any noise for outdoors.

The seasonal wind is well established but no matter. Trump will not be trying to change it.

CM has one main runway. Arrivals and departures can only be from/to north or south.

So, where the flights are headed to, or coming from is irrelevant. A bit like your posts.

At home, the sound pressure from the GD planes overflying or flying fairly near is high.

This is a phenomenon which affects a BROAD CORRIDOR for many kilometers both SOUTH of CM airport and NORTH of CM airport.

This affects thousands of students leading to decreased academic performance, and maybe even psychological problems, as these planes overfly schools and universities.

This is NOT a minor annoyance.

And so, since nobody else seems willing to address the problem, Our Last Great White Hope is....obvously....

TRUMP.

If petroleum prices triple, then flying will become more expensive.

Flying now is too cheap.

Nobody thinks twice about paying for it.

This is not right, and is not in accordance with what we know of Global Warming.

WHO flies in Thailand, anyway?

The average airline passenger here is not the majority group.

It is the UPPER-MIDDLE Class of Thailand, and the super rich.

The majority of Thai people cannot afford to fly around the country, presumably just due to boredom with their lives.

This is nothing unique to Thailand, and is probably the same in most countries.

Hence, the term....JET SETTER, who are people I despise, if you must know.

I need to add some sort of Rock insulation to my ceilings.

You are right, I must continue my insulation efforts for the good of the Planet, as well.

ROCKWOOL or stone wool....this is what I need.

Or, I should say particulate problem.

It cannot be good, except it does tend to cool down the air temps during the hot season, for sure.

I guess the cooler temps are worth the smoke and particulates in Chiang Mai?

On the face of it, I sympathise with the issue of increased frequency.

However, being the bright chap that you are, you DID know there was an airport in the local vicinity when you chose to settle there, didn't you...? And the increasing volume of air traffic over time is a well-established pattern so you could have anticipated that it was only going to get worse (COVID excepted).

Nothing personal, it's just commonsense and logic.

Only if they change the airport to the Donald J.Trump International Airport,

offer him something shiny ,then he would do it....
