People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leader Suthep Thuagsuban said Wednesday that only the nine core leader, himself included, should be indicted for leading the protests against the government of prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra during 2013-14.

While insisting on his respect for the discretion of public prosecutors regarding whom to be indicted, the former Democrat secretary-general clarified that the nine of them plotted and organized the protests and convinced the others to join their cause, although several of them took to the protest stage to address protesters during the 240-day marathon protests.

He cited former secretary-general of National Security Council Thawil Pliensri who took to the protest stage to explain his reason to protest against Yingluck administration and former Democrat MP Ms Rangsima Rodrasamee, another protest participant who also took to the stage to address the protesting crowd and who should not be slapped with rebellion charge.

That’s nice of him. How very commendable.

Just at one small detail, “it’s not up to you!”.

And he got the authority to decide that? How? I must say that the guy look quite firm in his glasses and expression. :cheesy:

What about an independent auditing of all the money he collected during the shutdown Bangkok?

Indict the lot of them ... :shock1:

In a nutshell mate. Never seen anyone as opinionated as Sutthep.

Since all nine of them pled 'not guilty' to all charges in court this new claim that only the nine of them were responsible for what happenned holds no water whatsoever.

Which does raise the question of why isn't protest "core" leader Phra Buddha Issara not charged as well? http://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2014/02/03/1391431312/

Issara was considered for an arrest warrant in February 2014 by Thung Song Hong police for preventing voters to exercise their voting rights at the polls. But the only action was a response from the National Buddhism Office director Mr Nopparat that the office had no power to defrock the protesting monk as the power lies with Nakhon Pathom sangha council. Which was ignored by abbot of Wat Om Noi.

To date I can't find any further case made against Issara such as the one being made against the Suthep/PDRC leadership. Yet, Issara did lead PDRC protesters in his occupation of the Government Complex on Chang Wattana road in 2014.

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/breakingnews/30227595

That was the same protest wherein the "pop-corn" gunman (since convicted) opened fire allegedly in defense of the PDRC protesters.

And I believe that same protest that his armed PCAD guards wounded a military officer in street clothes who was trying to leave the area.

In January 2018 Issara was accused by the Crime Suppression Division that he violated the lese majeste law.

But seems nothing became of the accusation.

So what's the rest of the answer?

To date Issara has continued to be a public political figure in HIS causes such as the draft 2016 Constitution to identify Buddhism as the State religion and unlawful protest gathering against the US Embassy in 2015.

Issara seems to have some great amulets for personal protection from prosecution. And Government admirers?

or at least the current justification for the coup.
