Election coming, says Prawit, hinting at possibility of lifting political ban

An election would definitely be held, said Deputy PM General Prawit Wongsuwan. And he held out the possibility of the junta lifting the ban on political activities if the situation is calm and procedures are followed.
 

Prawit was speaking after an amendment to the MP election bill was passed Thursday night by the National Legislative Assembly. The amendment, to delay implementation of the bill for 90 days beyond its proclamation, is expected to delay the vote to as late as February rather than the previously announced November deadline.

 

“There is no problem,” said Prawit. “It’s good [that they have passed the bill] because people keep asking when the election will be held.”

 

However, he declined to comment on a remark that the passage of the bill would result in the roadmap being delayed, saying the NLA had decided on the matter and so no further questions were needed.

 

Prawit also said there was no need to explain the move to the international community, which has repeatedly shared its concern over Thailand being governed by a military junta since 2014.

 

The international community wished to see the election held, and it would be, said Prawit. It has just been delayed for three months, he said. It is clear that no further delay would take place, and the current delay still follows what was permitted under the charter.

 

The deputy PM said he could see no reason to further impact the election timing.

 

If the situation is calm and procedures are followed, the junta would consider lifting the political ban, he added.

 

Prawit also rejected the notion that the junta exerted pressure on the NLA to delay the election timing. The bill originated with and was passed by the NLA, which considered the amendment into the night, he said.

I believe this, like I believe his ludicrous borrowed watch story.

Yes, just shut up about my watches and don’t complain when the election is delayed again, and we might lift the political ban sometime in the future. 

 

They’re desperately thinking of new BS excuses and dangling BS carrots on sticks. Who is this man to offer anything? He can’t be trusted.

I can't wait to read the retraction at some point - Either later today or tomorrow, it'll be a case of mm er mm err mmm errr, sorry I thought we were talking about something else 

A deflection from the main point , this guy couldn't lie straight in bed.................

His comments are totally meaningless - quite apart from the evident fact that not a single syllable that issues from his appalling mouth can be trusted.

 

All he is saying here is that if we think the situation is right (calm - nobody daring to voice any criticism or comments against the junta), we might ('would') consider lifting the political ban and having an election. Oh, so gracious of him and the junta!

 

Of course they will engineer all sorts of further delays to the 'election'  - which is largely a meaningless election, anyway, as under the never-discussed 'Constitution' (no criticism of it allowed) the military have ensured that they hold all the levers of power. 

 

The amazing thing about that Constitution, however, is that very early on in its pages it declares (ostentatiously and hypocritically) that 'the sovereign power belongs to the Thai people'. Right! If only they would act upon that and grasp that power which is truly theirs, in their millions ...

So is Xmas,but it's a long way off.

The situation will not remain calm so the goalposts can continue to move.

 

Why did this twit get involved anyway, other than to show his nonchalance regarding the more pressing issue.

Let's see what he has to say when the EU and the US impose bans on Thai canned fish imports due to "human rights" issues for the workers.

 

EU and US will not say, officially, that it is because of the elections not being held in November 2018.

This guy is just trying to show that despite the 'watch' issue he is still DPM. No matter how many watches he has this guy hasn't got a clue of what day it is. I wonder if the law that new parties have to register their members in march and old parties register in April law is still the law now? 

There should be a law on how many times a new law can be rewritten.
