BANGKOK, 29th January 2018 (NNT) - The Thai Red Cross Society is asking people to donate blood, particularly those with the A blood type, to help patients across the country.

A shortage of blood is affecting hospitals nationwide. More than 150 hospitals need more than 3,000 units of blood of all types each day.

In Bangkok, blood donations can be made at the Thai Red Cross National Blood Centre, Henri Dunant Road. In other provinces, people can donate blood at blood service centers in Lop Buri, Chon Buri, Rat Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Phuket and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

The Thai Red Cross National Blood Centre has organized a project to promote blood donations from January until December 2018. The objective of the project is to do help the public and honor His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.

Here is more info about making a blood donation in Thailandhttps://english.redcross.or.th/node/49

Refrigerated mobile bus set up to travel the other areas,

would help with the donations, for me it is a 112km  round trip,

to get to the donation centre, most do not have the flexibility to travel such distance,

so my suggestion would be to add a special lottery at the reduced rate of 40 baht per ticket for blood donors, or some similar drive to boost the blood bank,

for now the locations are to far apart.

The Thailand Red Cross website has a calendar of where they will be located for blood drives. I believe most of the listings are in the Bangkok area. It is written in Thai, but you can paste the URL into Google Translate to get a pretty good translation of where they will be.

Also stop the ridiculous refusal to take blood from British people that we in the U.K. between 1980 and 1996.

I would think that precludes 90% of the British expats.

There is the risk of mad cow disease.. maybe its more expensive to test for that than to exclude the Brits. (could be wrong but I guess that is the reason)

They have this rule in many countries (even in Europe) so it is not only in Thailand they refuse blood that might carry BSE or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease as it's called if affecting humans.

They already test blood donations for many other diseases so I think you are right, it must be a cost thing.

But if you are in desperate need of blood and likely to die without it, I am sure most of us would be happy to pay the extra.

Oh how I agree.  It is frustrating being a fit and able 63 year old and not on any medication to not be allowed to give blood.

So flipping short sighted.  I do not know of any country in the world that has enough stocks to turn people away like us.

deleted, end of story
