Possible election delay not a ruse to stay in power, says govt

The government has dismissed the idea that it could delay this year’s election as a ruse to cling on to power.

Government spokesperson Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said on Monday that too much had been made of the suggestion the election could be postponed by 90 days.

“What’s the matter, really, those 90 days?” he asked.

Such a delay would not make much difference, he said, and the government was not hanging on to power or trying to find any excuse not to abide by the law.

Moreover, Sansern said a decision on whether to postpone the election did not depend solely on the government. Related laws also needed to be pursued.

He insisted that the government listened to all comments and acknowledged them. It had not been influenced by adverse polls, he said, adding that polls were produced by various institutions and sometimes produced different results.

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Sure, what's the big deal? It's only people's rights that are being trampled on. It's not like a rich person has been hurt.

The rank arrogance of these faux-elite is so clearly enunciated in this creep's rhetorical question: 'What’s the matter, really, those 90 days?'

What an insult to the Thai people. The Thais have already been waiting nearly four years for an election - so a further postponement (which is far from the first and will not be the last - you can depend on that) represents insult heaped upon insult heaped upon insult heaped upon insult.

I've never lived in a land where the 'rulers' are so utterly, brazenly shameless and conscience-deprived as in Thailand.

But at last there are stirrings of rebellion in the wind. People have really started to have HAD ENOUGH of tyranny and the loss of basic human rights and liberties ...

Agree completely. I think their nonchalance is a charade. They cannot wheel the army in for any peaceful protests and Suthep and his cronies are charged with sedition and treason. The BBK post opinion mentions  Gen Suchinda and what happened to him when he shrugged off peoples protests

I was wondering.....If Suthep was charged over Bangkok shut down...How about the one who did a coup d'etat against an elected government????? I don't see any bigger crime than that. Why dear Leader is still free???

“Relates laws need to be pursued” .... you gotta laugh

The real issue is that it are 90 days to be added to the other 730 days, as elections were promised for 2015

Difficult to believe even if his puppeteers hadn't committed high treason and seized power at gunpoint

Sounds more like a ploy than a ruse.

Why would they want to prolong power. All the money in the treasure chest is already budgeted for over a 10 year period. Section 44 is going to be used if somebody change that fact.
Remember, that´s not power. It´s only a fair advantage.

Could have fooled me !

Not a ruse he says in absence of anything substantive to suggest otherwise.

Bit like Bernard Mathews telling a Turkey the oven is just to keep it warm !

Missing keyword being *independent*.

And, contrary to government polls which would only produce the same unbelievable results, due to the required identification of those invited to give their opinion.

Here's an idea, have a nationwide anonymous poll and then you can listen to the real comments.

Bovine excrement.

To state the obvious, because he has the guns, the tanks and the soldiers.

Yes, that’s where Thailand is presently. Ruled  through the barrel of a gun by an Army sponsored by the elite.

It’s not all bad though, Steven100, robblok, Halloween etc. have a slightly more convenient lifestyle. Every cloud has a silver lining.

ROFL. no big deal ?

its behind you

What are the odds that a spokesman for the government is telling the truth? Same as my chances of winning the lotto!

The matter is, that you shut your flap before the bullshite starts fermenting. Keep it in your gullet.

The government is always on about cracking down on misunderstandings, misinformation, fake news that would confuse and incite the fragile Thai populace to commit unspeakable acts. So, Sanserm, you of Lt.Gen. rank, in your opinion: Who is the main diseminator of above mentioned lies in Thailand?

I help you out: it's the Coup-Coup-Club of Thailand, Inc.

"not a ruse to stay in power"

Maybe not, it still has the same effect though, dumbass!

Any election is going to be totally meaningless ! A constitution which the masses in their wisdom voted for made sure of that!

In the end might has right as well as big guns. It's a bigger crime but for the greater good of the nation. That's the excuse for most coups have used through history.

We don't know whether the masses, up to 63%, really voted for this 'Constitution' as claimed: we only have the word of proven liars, deceivers and tyrants - no independent verification was allowed. I have said from day one that it is highly doubtful that the 63% (approx.) 'yes' vote from the people is genuine. It is almost certainly a pack of lies - like everything else that streams like excrement from the orifices of these anti-human and truly ugly (morally and spiritually, as well as physically) control freaks ...
