Thailand may need to fund its own greenhouse gas reduction effort

BANGKOK, 29th January 2018 (NNT)-The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) has cited the need for Thailand to find financial support to achieve its carbon emission reduction goal after the U.S. withdrew from the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).

ONEP Secretary-General Raweean Phuridej said during a seminar on the results of the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the UNFCC that greenhouse gas reduction funding for developing nations has declined by 100,000 US dollars after the American withdrawal last year.

Representatives and academics from various organizations also attended the seminar. According to Raweewan, America is the second largest carbon emission nation after China. Thailand needs to fund its own mission to lower the quantity of greenhouse gas or seek the money elsewhere.

She also said it would possible for Thailand to obtain funding overseas given that the country is a major exporter of farm and refrigeration products. Raweean also added that the upcoming COP 24 in Poland late this year will be even more intensive since those, who are parties to the Paris Agreement, are required to achieve the carbon emission reduction within the time frame.

Seems funny, money for tanks, guns , subs, military, officials, economy bursting with growth, yet anything like having to spend money on saving the planet and its large military cap-in-hand out to everyone !

Here is a shot of the main greenhouse gas production plant in Bangkok.image.jpeg.16eba5ba5f900b595764154c9b1d2510.jpeg

As to saving the planet, the planet is doing just fine. It's been here for billions of years and will still be here for billions more.  it is the pests residing on the planet that may need saving, as mother nature has many methods of reducing and destroying the itch.

Well that’s that then.... another country turning its back on reducing emissions (yer... you know it’s so. Thai efforts so far are mainly revolving around stopping smoking on beachs... WAY TO GO! ????) ...... more to follow

So many domestic options:

Cut back by two the number of planned coal-fired electric generation plants

Cut military defense spending from 5% to 1% p.a

Cut civil service annual pay raises from 5% to 1%

Reduce size of government

Reduce military officer and troop numbers

Cut back debt financed infrastructure projects

Sell off state-owned enterprises

But if tradition holds true, Thailand will find funds from China and Japan - maybe India.

Or more simply, lower its carbon emission reduction goal. Leave to the elected government to resolve.
