Hospitals to ‘soon’ learn their share of Toon charity-run proceeds

The 11 public hospitals to receive donations from rock star Artiwara “Toon” Kongmalai’s cross-country charity run have been invited to meet to discuss their share of the fundraising proceeds, said Maj-General Nimit Samothan, president of Phramongkutklao Hospital Foundation.

 

The hospitals will receive their first sum on February 25 from the fundraising campaign, Nimit said. The initial criteria to determine the division of proceeds will probably be the number of beds at each hospital.

 

 

The rock-star-turned-national-hero led the charity run in December from the southernmost to the northernmost provinces to raise funds for the 11 hospitals. He initially set the donation target at Bt700 million but the tally after completion of the 55-day and 2,191-kilometre run exceeded Bt1 billion. 

 

As of yesterday, the donation had reached Bt1.346 billion as people continued to donate to Artiwara’s “Kao Kon La Kao”, or “Take One Step Each”, campaign. Nimit also publicly apologised for the mistake on the receipt of a donor, Thicha Na Nakhon, who donated Bt15,000 to the campaign but received a receipt for only Bt500 from the foundation.

 

Thicha posted to Facebook last week, demanding an explanation of the error.

 

The new receipt has already been sent to Thicha for the correct amount, Nimit said. He had hoped to meet Thicha in person, he added, but she asked the foundation to send it by mail instead.

 

“I sincerely apologise to Khun Thicha and want to make sure that there will be no repeat of the mistake. I can assure people that there is no corruption in the process,” he said.

 

Hospitals receiving donations from the campaign are Yala Hospital, Surat Thani Hospital, Ratchaburi Hospital, Chao Phraya Yommarat Hospital, Saraburi Hospital, Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital, Nan Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital, Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, Khon Kaen Hospital and Nakornping Hospital.

They couldn't lie straight in bed these lot.

Toon raised over a billion Baht - a wonderful exhilarating effort...

 

The establishment now have their paws on the money and are preparing to "allocate" it, a familiar depressing concept...

 

Oh, and look, an error has emerged, and a general wants to meet with the complainant to put things right - sure...

I hope all of this money goes to the right places. But reading about the receipt story and seeing men in uniforms with all their plastic badges, I’m not filled with confidence. 

 

Just do the right thing.

a lot of sad but true to come think Toon will be disappointed with the end maths result.

The banner head line gives the impression that there standing about with there hands (acting if they are wash them) waiting for there share of the loot and the above picture of the tin soldiers does not inspire confidents .  Shame really!

BEFORE the money is paid out, there should be an INDEPENDENT audit of monies in and where they are now. And then of monies out, especially 'administrative expenses'. I am sure that a major accounting firm would do this pro bono - and it would hopefully prevent 'leakage'. Stage 2 should be to then audit what happens to the money at each hospital.

Money is involved,lets hope it is all handled properly and above board,

BUT I doubt it will,they just cannot help themselves when lots of  cash

is involved,

For God's sake - why do the military have to stick their filthy noses into everything, including this? They are the LAST people who should be overseeing the distribution of charitable money. They always regards THEMSELVES as the nation's rightful charity!

 

It is so obvious to me (on seeing that the military have got their disgusting fingers clawing at the money) that there is going to be massive corruption involved in this whole enterprise, which was admirably undertaken in all sincerity by Toon. So sad ...

I sincerely hope this money will reach its intended target and not end up lining some ones pocket.A lot of this money was giving by people who can not really afford to give money away.

All we can do is hope but i am quit sceptical.

Knowing how little of the donations to charity in the western world actually reaches the needy is the reason i do not give to charity anymore.

Better to help some people you actually know.

 

Hopefully, as with most things army involved, this will not end up as usual.

Useless to do as corruption runs so deep here.

They buy new equipment worth 50 million of this, and at the same time move away 50 million from the hospital budget into their own pockets.

The charity money will be 100% accounted for (come see the equipment with the price tag still on it) while the net result will be zero.
