Ex-rector of Thammasat surrenders to acknowledge charges

Former Thammasat University rector Charnwit Kasetsiri turned himself in to police at the Technology CrimeSuppression Division to acknowledge charges related to Computer Crime Act for allegedly sharing an image in the social media purported to be a brandname handbag of Mrs Naraporn, the wife of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Charnvit however denied the charges, claiming his act in sharing the image was an expression of opinion as a private citizen who is entitled to criticize a leader who is a public figure within legal and ethical framework.

Yes, hard to believe. Pretty soon they will be treating these people like the Romans treated rebellious slaves , crucifiying them at 1 kilometer intervals along the Wipawadee Rangsit road.

( bet they wish they could but there is Facebook and Line to prevent such stuff.)

I think he said, or maybe only implied, that it was an expensive designer bag when it wasn’t. Guess the PM didn’t want people thinking he had items beyond his wealth. But it would be up to the PM’s accuser to prove that this was the rector’s aim. That’s simply too hard to prove unless the rector specifically said so.

The simple and mature thing would be to just ignore it. They chose to charge him and now it’s just another mark on their record. They’ll never learn tact.

speechless :shock1:

pathetic little men

It’s worth pointing out that Charnwit is one of Thailand’s most distinguished historians, one of the country’s relatively few academics with a stellar international reputation.

One day they may be called to defend their country then we shall see from what metal they are made.

They would command others to lay down their lives... in defence of them.

It is quite obvious that the men running the show have lost the plot and are not going to leave easily.  They would not be doing things this absurd if they were planning to leave willingly.

yes fighting over handbags will prepare a military to the readiness it was 30 years ago for a 3 month skirmish.

Junta apologists will stop at nothing to justify their evil ways

I think you have it all wrong. He transferred more than B 500 million assets to his parents and other family just before the coup. So we already know he is rich beyond what normal generals will be with assets of more than B 600 million. The question is not about the handbag but how a general earned B600 million plus in assets when his top career salary in the last 18 months of service was only B 1,2 million per year. He started out as a private with nothing and 30 years later was more than B 600 million strong. I choose the wrong career as it seems the RTA makes those with half a brain very rich.

I know he's stinking rich. My point is that he has to pretend he's not. Hence the summoning of the rector.

Now he knows what being hand-bagged means.
