I have an intermittent problem where all my saved passwords are being cleared from both my browser as well as Outlook. Someone I spoke to said it was a security feature and happens when one logs in from a different IP address and on an unsecured network? I am currently in the UK using a Lenovo laptop and Windows 8.1. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't believe the security feature bit.

Do you regularly "clean" you browser/computer history/cache etc.  If so look for check boxes against passwords.  Be careful as some of the statements in some clean up programmes are "double negative" questions/statements.  In delete browser history for example (in IE) leave the password box unchecked (same in Ccleaner) but the box needs to be ticked to keep passwords in some other clean up programmes.

I am using Chrome. I think it started after being invited to upgrade to the paid version of Iobit Uninstaller. I deleted the programme but the problem reoccurs intermittently. Doubt it is browser settings as I lose the passwords in Outlooks email settings as well.

Iobit Uninstaller creates restore points automatically, unless you disable the function, before it deletes anything.  You can try using a restore point either before you installed IO or B4 its first uninstall (it does not matter that you have deleted IO)

RE Chrome.  It make no difference I only used IE as an example!  Before "cleaning/uninstalling Cache/history etc look at the settings/check boxes and choose carefully!

PS;  Your passwords are stored in the Windows vault.  Nirsoft and a few other companies can actually find these for you.  But not after you have deleted them permanently.

I suspect IO bit is doing the uninstalling/clearing of the passwords despite being "uninstalled".  Surely clearing saved passwords in the browser would not clear passwords in Outlook? Have checked the settings in Chrome.

What does logging into an "unprotected mean"? I am moving around a lot. Logging into free wifi in B&B's and Coffee Shops. It was suggested I set up a VPN. But not sure how or why.

1.  Do you know what a "restore Point" is?

2. If so have you tried a restore?

3.  If you have "uninstalled" a programme and still getting the same problem it is NOT the uninstalled programme, assuming of course that your programmes are legit and not "Torrents/Pirate" copies.

4.  Have you used any "cleaning/history" removal programmes, if so see my first reply.  You will have to re-install the passwords, but be careful with future "cleansing/wiping".

A bit more detailed info would be helpful if you want anymore help!

Will try a system restore next time it happens.

It started two or three months ago and occurred as I uninstalled IObit. I then used Malwarebytes which found some left over files from IObits, cleared them  and cleared the problem. Whatever it is, it scrubs all saved passwords which I have to reload.

I thought I was all clear but have had the same thing happen twice since I have been in the UK. Both times after logging into a new network. For 24/48 hrs it does not matter how many times I reload the passwords. They don't take and I have to use Webmail to read my mail.

After a while it settles down, I reload my passwords and continue until the next time. Odd.

Since google Chrome and microsoft Outlook are unrelated applications, I'd suspect some 3rd party utility is responsible for erasing the stored info. You didn't mention anything else being erased or cleared around the same time, so not a lot of info provided to help track the culprit.

Google Chrome has the option of saving/syncing browser information (like bookmarks and site passwords) to a google account.

If the OP provided the answers/info asked for we could help.  At the moment we are in the dark.

Try using a system restore point know (not "the next time it happens"), dated before this problem first occurred and see if any of your passwords (of that date) are there.  If not just undo the restore point and all you have done  is wasted 30 minutes.  If it works we would be getting somewhere if you let us know what happens.

Accurate info would help us help you!

Apart from uninstaller have you used any other (and its sometimes connected check up programme) have you used any clean up programme such as Ccleaner or have you "cleaned" your browser history at any time.

I have used the option on Chrome to clear cookies. But not recently, don't think it is connected. I suspect it has something to do with Lenovo's security suite. It happens when I change service providers and try logging in from different areas. When it does, I have started using webmail to read my mail. After 24/36 hrs everything reverts to the way it was.

It would appear the passwords are not being cleared. Just hidden long enough to make me panic.
