Ministry of Education to adjust curriculum to support tourism industry

BANGKOK, 8th February 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Education are working together to revise the curriculum to better support the tourism industry.

The Tourism and Sports Minister, Weerasak Kowsurat, chaired a meeting to brainstorm ideas about enhancing production capacity and developing human resources to meet the needs of Thailand's tourism industry, under the government's Thailand 4.0 development scheme. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and representatives from public and private educational institutions.

Mr. Weerasak delivered policies and directions for sustainable tourism development. He said the number of new graduates in the tourism field is large. However, there are limitations, as the current curriculum focuses on theories and does not completely meet the needs of the tourism industry.

Mr. Weerasak said his ministry and the Ministry of Education are cooperating to overhaul the tourism and hospitality curriculum to support Thailand 4.0 policy.

So new graduates wasted their education whose limitations was apparently unknown to the Ministry. They should consider a law suit against the Ministry to cover the cost to retrain in order to meet the needs of the tourism industry, including lost wages.

Dare I say it that the curriculum more than likely doesn't include a fluency in English, mainly due to the lack of fluent English speaking teachers?

maybe should add chinese proficiency in order to

serve the millions who will soon be arriving via

high-speed rail.

I wouldn't worry, they will be herded around by Chinese guides, stay in Chinese owned hotels, eat in Chinese owned restaurants and shop in...

Basically English and Mandarin proficiency.
