Andrew Dwyer
In my garden ( in the near future) I will be making a gazebo type structure ( for want of a better name), I would like to run cables for a double socket and a light under a concrete path then about 7 metres of soil and up through the concrete slab under the gazebo.I also would like to prepare for some cables to a future gate opener motor under a concrete path. I remember reading recently on another thread about underground cables going inside some Black tubing ( high density pvc ? )specifically for this purpose ?Do I need this Black tubing for the above cables ?If so where is it available ?Do I need any special cables also ? Thanks in advance . Andy
Popular Post kamalabob2
HDPE black conduit with the red stripe and waterproof fittings are at most any good electrical shop in Thailand. NYY copper cable is the sensible long term cable to put underground. VCT could work in the conduit. Any good electrical shop will have this is in 3 wire 2.5 NYY. Not a specialty item. Bangkok cable is one of the better brands of NYY.
Popular Post Crossy
Yup, NYY is the right stuff. It's rated to be direct buried (no conduit) if outside the range of gardening activities. VCT is really just regular flex, it's not intended to be waterproof. That said we have some VCT feeding a remote water pump (no, I didn't put it in) much of which is actually direct buried. After 6 years it still reads good on the insulation tester. Underground conduits invariably end up full of water, I'm not sure how long VCT will last in those conditions. Either way, it's vital that there is earth leakage protection at the source end of the cable.
