Dongtan Beach smoking ban called success

PATTAYA:--Pattaya authorities called implementation of their campaign to promote the smoking ban on Dongtan Beach a success and will begin campaigning on other area beachfronts soon.

Thanet Munnoi, director of the Marine and Coastal Resource Management Office Chonburi led a squad of police officers to Jomtien Beach Feb. 1, the first day in which the three-month-old smoking ban was actually enforced.

He said both Thais and foreigners understood the reasons for the ban and the penalties for breaking the law, which include fines of up to 100,000 baht and up to a year in jail.

Thanet added that everyone was cooperating and only smoking in designated areas.

With the Dongtan Beach campaign declared a success, Thanet said similar campaigns can be immediately implemented on all other Pattaya, Jomtien and Naklua beaches.

However, without sufficient numbers of officers to enforce it, the ban might be ignored, Thanet said.

Phot op. ................ Check

Picture in paper .....Check

Signs up  ................Check

Time to find something new to crack down on.  Did someone say dart boards?

:cheesy:

Excellent news, now they have stopped smoking ( for the five minutes they were there ) on that beach, they can move on to the traffic, the crime, the infrastructure, the rubbish etc etc etc.

How much money have they already raised?

They can call it what ever they like     but I'm calling it ridiculous !

so, is it implemented on all the other beaches as he said ????????????????????

how can it be a 3 month old smoking ban when the smoking ban only came into effect on 1st feb

It was announced back late last year, and even though the date was revised shortly after , Dongtan and to a large degree Jomtien beaches jumped right into it at that point , making off the beach smoking stations ..
Seems to have been effective.

Looks like many posters on here " hate " a Thai success story ..

Certainly hasnt stopped the Indians who yesterday were all lit up at Soi 5 patttaya beach concession with the mama right beside them. Obviously 300 baht for 3 chairs is far more important....thats rhetorcal

And in what way is this a success story? The ban started with that they "counted" buts on a beach in Phuket. and now they "count" smokers on a beach in Jomtien where is the corelation? If they put a ban of 100 000 baht for driving against traffic and make a follow up and it shows that the wrongdowers hav been reduced, that would be a success.

A success story?  Two cops get their picture in the paper whilst all taximeters in the city are given carte blanche to ignore the law of the land.
