Security stepped up for Chinese New Year weekend

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s tourist police joined the effort to increase security during the busy Chinese New Year weekend.

Division commander Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong Ensarn said Pattaya was expecting an influx of visitors from Bangkok for the Feb. 16-18 weekend, with some coming earlier for Valentine’s Day.

Patrols will be conducted regularly while support areas and vehicles will be stationed throughout busy areas. Hotel occupancy is expected to be nearly full so more officials will be stationed around tourist zones, with volunteers supplementing regular officers.

Immigration police also are expected to be busy, with foreigners asked to show passports and entry stamps when checking into hotels.

Piyapong added that officials will also be sent to Koh Larn for security reasons as well. Support will be provided in and around the pier and boats will be inspected regularly since many people are expected to travel to the island during the festive period.

Lifeguards also were reminded to keep a good watch on swimmers.
