webfact
Nok Air returns to Sakhon Nakhon shortly after takeoff By Thai PBS A Nok Air plane on a flight from Sakhon Nakhon to Don Mueang airport yesterday (Feb 18) was forced to return to the airport after less than a minute of take-off after having engine trouble. The incident was revealed on the Facebook page of the Thai Aviation Club after a passenger on Flight DD9407 posted a video footage showing the turbo-prop airplane Bombardier dash 8 Q400 has developed engine trouble. The passenger said flame was seen coming out twice of one left engine. The plane shook slightly and the engine stopped, not knowing if the pilot switched off the troubled engine himself or the engine went out of work itself. George Bowman
That would have been a scary experience. Here is a Nok Air plane taking off from Don Muang. Golfers must be a tough bunch.
billd766
SOP for the pilot and crew. It seems as though they did an excellent job. Good training by Nok Air.
falang07
I would say this has nothing to do with the training by Nok Air, it is a standard situation that every pilot must be able to cope with. Engine is on fire, swith it off and return immediately. They were lucky it did not explode/burst into flames though.

All aircrews SHOULD go through basic flight training and on joining an airline are put through a flight simulator to get type qualifed before joining a crew as second pilot with further training on the job and in the simulator before becoming a captain. They shoul;d also be assessed by a check pilot every period of time to ensure that they haven't slipped back. Flight simulators are expensive but far cheaper than losing passengers, trained crew and a very expensive aircraft in a crash.
webfact
NokAir explains Sakon Nakhon emergency landing By The Nation NokAir said on Monday that it had “taken all remedy measures” for passengers after a flight from Sakon Nakhon to Don Muang Airport had to return to its origin for an emergency landing on Sunday. NokAir said the captain of Flight DD9407, which left Sakon Nakhon International Airport at 3.10pm, properly observed safety precautions by returning to land at the airport following an engine malfunction. The Bombardier Q400 turboprop plane with 84 passengers on board returned two minutes after it took off after smoke was seen coming from an engine compartment. In a statement, NokAir said some passengers were transferred to fly Flight DD9521 that left the Nakhon Phanom International Aiport at 9.10pm and reached Don Muang Airport at 10.20pm. Other passengers were allowed to reschedule their flights at their convenience or get a refund.
