There are lots of inaccuracies and misconceptions about e-cigarettes and vaping. This UK government blog looks at the most common myths and provides the facts. This represents the latest comprehensive independent e-cigarette review, is authored by leading academics in the tobacco control field and is based on up-to-date international data and peer-reviewed research. Their view is supported by a number of key bodies, including Cancer Research UK, Action on Smoking and Health, the Royal College of Physicians, the British Medical Association and recently, a major US science body, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The evidence is 100% clear - vaping saves lives.

Or, the 7 Dwarfs are ready to cash in on the vaping market and have turned their spin doctors in that direction.

I'm not disagreeing with the OP.  Just disgusted that we never really know when that kind of money is up for grabs...

Note that e-cigarettes are illegal in Thailand.

Yes, I'd heard this - or I actually heard specifically that it's illegal to import them due to the fact there is no import duty rate defined for them, so they must have been imported illegally. But that leaves me very confused, as I thought import duties were only payable if you were importing things to sell them. As far as I understand things, we aren't breaking the law by not paying import duties on our personal phones, laptops, sunglasses, trainers, dive gear, etc when we arrive, so why would it a problem with personal vaping gear? Is all very confusing!

I think it's better that the UK government generates tax revenue from vaping over tobacco - especially when you factor in the reduced burden on the NHS too; it really does make economic sense to legitimise, promote and tax the industry.

On that we agree.  Legalize it, control the quality and distribution and tax it according to the long term anticipated societal costs.   If it gets people off smoking, those long term societal costs may actually be a favorable- though I can't see a subsidy in the cards.

And I think it's important to compare the effects of vaping vs smoking as opposed to the effects of vaping vs nothing.   (Just like I think it's important to compare the effects of blowing dope to the alternatives, and not to abstinence.  Though that's another topic for another day)
