Five Thai men and women charged after clambering on the ruins at Ayutthaya

Two women and three men aged between 27 and 34 who took an action picture clambering on the ruins of Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya have answered police charges.

 

The group claimed they posted the picture as a warning to others of what not to do, now they are in hot water after the drama hit social media.

 

Director of the Sri Ayutthaya Historical park Sukanya Baonert saw red after seeing the picture and alerted police.

 

The group of men and women said they had visited the park in January and a guide had told them to get down. They complied.

 

Realizing later what they had done was wrong they posted the picture online as a warning to others, they claimed.

 

They didn't expect to get into trouble over the matter.

That ought to be perhaps the most moronic excuse of the year so far. It's quite an achievement, too, considering how many moronic excuses we've heard in recent times from other parties ("I borrowed all those watches from a close friend who has since died"; "A vendor, who just happened to pass by while we were camping out in the middle of the jungle, sold us the meat of that black leopard")

let's us see now how this situation will be handled, would it be different to if a foreigner

would be caught doing the same? we shall see....

Surely, they are from another Asian- country!

Thais are sooooo respectful towards their religion!

So religious, that other countries have to apologize to Thai- Buddhists, if they do something "wrong"...

‘Gang of sinners’ apologises for Ayutthaya temple indiscretion

Four of the five Thai tourists who dubbed themselves the “gang of sinners 2018” in photos posted online showing them atop temple platforms in Ayutthaya surrendered to police on Monday evening.

 

The four told Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya Police they were “ignorant of the consequences” when they posed for the photos on a January 28 visit to Wat Mahathat in the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an action considered highly disrespectful to the temple and to Buddhism.

 

The suspects apologised to society and said they would perform a ritual to make amends to the spirits of Wat Mahathat.

 

They were released pending the anticipated surrender of the fifth member of the group on Tuesday and a court appearance has been set for Wednesday.

 

Historical Park director Sukanya Bua-nerd filed a police complaint on Monday against Salilthip Sae-ngow, 30, Wiyanee Art-hanm 31, Yutiwich Panthongprasert, 27, Pornthep Wongcheun, 27, and Boworn Yupitak, 34.

 

They face charges of climbing on a historical structure resulting in damage and committing an “abhorrent act” at an historic site.

 

Each offence is punishable by up to one month in jail, a Bt10,000 fine or both.

In all honesty, the way the orange clad lot behave these days, I cannot see the difference between these boys behaviour and the temple dwellers. 

Thais did this? C'mon at least one of them must have a foreign ancestor so they can blame it on the pesky 'farrangs'.

The numerous Thai xenophobes who seem to have been growing in numbers exponentially over the past 2 decades or so will have a hard time spinning that one.... If the trespassers were from another country, they'd have a field day screaming bloody murder and disrespect of Thai culture, but oops ! these are Thai people disrespecting their own patrimony ... mind boggling huh ?

Thailand hub of most morinic excused .....you can learn from the Thais!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Collect them and take them when you are in need!

Humourless, petty and vindictive. Not something I want to equate with Thailand. This has killed off any interest I may have had left in visiting a Thai historical park. If the place is a ruin, are people to just go and look at the bricks? You can clamber all over the temple ruins at Angkor and many other places (including Sukhothai I think - or at least that used to be the case). The world is getting less interesting every year.
