In a couple of days I will be picking up a 2016 Honda CB500X and would like to buy 1st class insurance cover for it. Would appreciate any suggestions for agencies and some idea of the cost.

I go through AA Insurance Brokers as they can find the best deal for you and they speak English. Just renewed mine and you can do everything by email, no need to go into the office. Cost me 5657 baht for my Stallions 400. They are also a Thai Visa sponsor.
