You missed the point. The point is, I and not American but I can now a house, in my name, in your country, America. I can not do that in Thailand, and neither can you. Could have been the best 4.5M baht spent, if she and / or other Thai girls done you over. 😂 It is illegal to set up a Thai company solely for the purpose of owning land. They can crack down all they like. I rent, and sleep well at night. I look at paying rent as an investment here, also as insurance, and also as part of any possible Thailand exit strategy. You talk about living rent free, but you have to factor in the purchase price. You did touch on life expectancy. You can run the numbers, but if someone retired here at 66 and paid X amount for a property, and they know what similar properties are renting for each month, then one can work out roughly how long they have to live before buying puts them ahead of renting, and many don't seem to live that long.
