Return belongings of backpacker murdered in Thailand to British police, MP says

Kirsty Jones was raped and murdered in a Thai hostel in 2000

The belongings of a backpacker murdered in Thailand 18 years ago must be returned so British police can hunt for clues before time runs out to get justice, an MP has said.

Kirsty Jones was 23 and just three months into a two-year round the world trip when she was raped and strangled in her hostel in Chiang Mai in August 2000.

It is feared that time is running out to catch her killers as Thai cases are closed after 20 years. Her family's local MP has therefore called for her belongings to be returned to Britain, so police here can carry out extensive testing to see if they hold any further clues to the identity of her killers.

No way will The BIB allow this to happen.

They know who the murderer is, it just ain't ever going to followed up on

That's a British MP, right? Hey, why would police here do any investigation if they didn't get dibs on leftovers? Got to motivate them somehow

yes a scum cover up, any other police force would have had this murder done and dusted in a month with semen DNA testing, but 18 years, that is one ****** joke. probably a cop ??

I remember this, so sad. I doubt anyone will ever be brought to justice.

18 years? Do they still know where to find that shit? Sometimes things actually work.

While in Thailand, don't expect blizzards or justice.

The statute of limitations on murder should never expire. I grief with the family of this victim. It's a disgrace on Thailands entire law enforcement community to not cooperate fully with all interested parties in the UK. Smells like a white wash, or no maybe  just lazy

I remember her case.  It was the beginning of a long string of backpacker murders and unexplained deaths around CM and particularly the Downtowner inn which i think may have been demolished  a while back.

There were rumours of cover ups to protect high ranking cops and officials.  One cop actually murdered two kids from Europe and was seen casually sitting at a street cafe sipping a latte  a short time  after he had been  'arrested'.   Thats CM for you. Alot of the boiler room scammers used to be based there.   Very corrupt police and dangerous.

Probably have not got round to filling out the incident report yet, so give them a chance.

sadly they will be lost

Mr Davies should have kept the news that they would be collecting more clues to himself, until after they had the belongings in England.

As the family of the cadet that died, secretly had his body reexamined.

Most likely everything will have a good wash and scrub before being smothered in formaldehyde and sent home.

He should have just said he wanted the belongings sent to the family.

Opportunity lost.

Wasn't this the Daily Mail case where they narrowed it down to one of the BIB ?

I disagree that there was a long string of backpacker murders in CM .

This case was a one off .

The seven deaths at the Downtown Inn were due to pesticides being used erroneously to kill bed bugs , those were not murders .

The other killing that you refereed to was in Pai and that was by a drunk Policeman and he eventually got charged with murder .

The murder in the O.P was a one off .

The Police in CM are no more corrupt that the Police anywhere else and also CM is not dangerous
