I've recently setup a business here with my wife. Our accountant who has been taking care of my work permit just called me saying I could pickup my work permit today. The bad news is the person at the MoL only gave my work permit a validity of 1 month. This is good until the end of my 90 day entry. My visa expires in December. Is this right?

The person at the MoL said I could come back and extend it within 15 days for 1 year on my next entry. Problem is I'm going to Japan at the end of this month and the work permit is only good until the 5th.

Any advice on how to handle this?

A work permit only valid for 30 day is way out of the norm but some work permit offices make up their own rules. The shortest period they are normally issued for is 3 months for a fee of 750 baht.

You could do a border run for a new 90 day entry so that they would do the one year work permit.
