March 13, 20188 yr Indian man and Thai woman arrested for multiple job scams Police have arrested an Indian man and a Thai woman who were offering jobs and change of visa status to Indians. Then they were disappearing with their money and phones. The case came to light after complaints to police and the Indian embassy. Crime buster Surachet Hakpal was pictured as the arrest of the suspects was announced. They are Sarath Kumar Chaparala, 40, and Lek or Kanokkorn Wongburee, 37. They were apprehended in Kamphaengphet Monday on a warrant issued in Dusit, Bangkok on Saturday. The latest case followed a complaint to Don Muang police by Indian national Akarch Jain in February. Mr Jain said that he was offered a job by the suspects at Siam Technologies. He was met at the airport by Lek and shown to places that were believed to be the front for a fake company. There $US 1,700 was demanded to change his tourist visa status to that of a working visa with permit. His phone was also taken away allegedly to install an application for the company. But that was the last he saw of the fraudsters. Investigations continue at Bang Sue police station but police have said the arrested couple stole money and goods in this manner at least ten times before. It is natural because people always want to trust their own people in a strange place. It is a universal fact of life. And if the mark is lonely or desperate for some reason, it is twice as easy.
