The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the state-owned PTT Plc yesterday (March 17) jointly kicked off the six-month test run of trains using biodiesel between Ban Laem-Mae Klong stations in Samut Songkram.

The test run was in response to the government’s policy to stimulate the use of biodiesel that will benefit palm oil farmers now suffering from falling palm prices.

The test run aimed to test the feasibility of upgrading current use of B7 biodiesel to B10 biodiesel on diesel locomotives.

As  over supply of palm oil and the need to help those farmers where the government can,

B10, may be a reasonible alterenative  use in  the locomotives, it is when that turns into a push for cars to start using this mixture,

the main problem is the dilution of engine oils that occurs with this mixture.

Regardless of what benefits might come from this initiative there is one thing that is certain. It will give birth to a new scam; somewhere, somehow.
