Reporting your address

Featured Replies

Do I have to 're report my address if I have travelled and stayed within Thailand or is it only necessary if you are returning from abroad?

Officially, yes. Should you do it? Why bother. Unless you fancy a trip down to immigration, of course.

I would rather not have any problems here with immigration, if I don't do it what could happen?

If you coming back to Thailand from abroad you give TM6 to Immigration on airport whit your address then you have report your address to Immigration or ?

I have had loads of nights away from home and have never yet bothered reporting when I get back. Never had a problem with it.

If you don’t want any problems you should ask your local office. Most won’t need you to report every trip inside the country.

The worst that can happen for not reporting is a fine.

Immigration Act

Section 76 : Any alien, alien, who fails to comply with the provisions of Section 37(2),(3),(4)or(5) shall be punished with a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht and with and additional fine not exceeding 200 Baht for each day which passes until the law is complied with.

Which form is used to report your address if you decide to do it

Depends on the office you’re reporting to and the type of report being made. It will be TM.28, or TM.30, or both.

There are 2 forms.

This one for staying in an another province for more that 24 hour or a change of address. TM28 Change of Address

This one for your landlord or you (at some offices.). TM30 Form Notification of aliens staying at a residence

Don't worry about the TM28 form. As far as I know no immigration office is enforcing the out of province rule.  They only want them for a change of address.

TM.30. But I wouldn’t bother as they’ve no way of knowing you were in Surat.

Under the law your family in Surat should report that you are staying at their home! I doubt that’s going to happen so no need to worry about reporting your return ‘home’.

... and another tread someone says Immigration said only need report when have travelled out of country :whistling:....think I go for permanent residency and citizenship :wai:

For me it's black and white. My immigration told me in no uncertain terms that I had to report back every time I moved from given address even if I just visited a hotel for a couple of nights then went back.....I was still required to revisit.

Do I think it's likely they would know and receive a fine? No

Do I think I want to take any chances and damage any future visa applications? Absolutely not so even contemplate taking a short cut. The Officer made the above point to my girlfriend once again when I checked in a couple of days ago.

Phuket does require the Change of Address after returning back to Phuket.

When this is not done and you have to do anything else at immigration (extension, Re-entry etc) they will (most of the time) check for the correct address.

I have to admit that some IO will say that it doesn't matter.

If you are in Phuket you can do the address registration and notification online:

This online registration is available nation wide but it is intended for businesses (hotels etc)

The landlord has to setup a account (can be done online) first after which they report the guests online.

Private house owners can do this also as long they setup a account with immigration.

The online registration cannot be used without a account or for individuals registering their own address.
