It would be of interest if anyone has any advice about what to do about a Thai teenager who exhibits the signs and is already out of control.

Fair enough but we were all kids once. As I said the best you can do is educate at young age and hope they make the right choices. Most kids particularly those that come from broken homes or absent parents and lower socio- economic positions will experiment with drugs nothing you can say or do will change the fact that at the end of the day it's their choice to make.

Well, in the States I've known parents to have success by sending their kids to special camps or boarding schools. I dunno if such camps exist here for Thais. There are boarding schools, but that's an expensive option that may not be suitable anyway. I think the OP implies the case of mixed families w/ a farang stepfather, different than the standard of a purely Thai family, but the two coincide to some extent on this issue. I suspect there are many cases of Thai kids from middle class families who may have the problem. Experimenting is one thing but the OP is describing a chronic situation beyond that I think.

Thanks to the OP for that post!

I do have a son, 3,5 years old attending an international kinder-garden / school.

I do live in the south, in urban area and have already my thoughts what will happen when my boy becomes a teenager and start exploring...

The most important thing is to explain them of young age, that these drugs are evil so are these people.

If I ever hear or catch someone in my village selling that sh*t to minors or my son, there will be some serious consequences (9mm), go figure...!

A concerned dad.

There are "camps" or something equivalent, where those caught by the police are sent. It's not prison...they go and come for a number of months...say it's like being on probation, or on parole.

One of my neighbors went there...seemed to give some positive results...you could see him piling weight by the week...

Having said that, the situation is disastrous, at least in my province, Sisaket, where not only consumers, but also labs, are everywhere...some villages even specialize in that production, as if it was part of the OTOP program!

And obviously, those who should keep an eye on things are in on it.

Consumers are not only youngsters, even if they certainly are the majority.

There is no "experimenting"...yaabaa is not pot which, at least, is natural...either they are users or they are not.

If you see your child losing weight for no specific reason, then this is sure sign...

My wife is a nurse and she and her colleagues are called regularly into these camps to check their blood for HIV and other diseases.

These boot camps are actually good, to keep first time offenders off the real joint. Where they will become easily real addicts...

you know in every pharmacy they have HERBS that can counter this evil drugs, you just need to educate yourself... what is on the side of the box is not the only use... for example curcumin, it write  : for flatulence, but it is a great anti cancer product... there are many more, learn about it, you might order less viagra or other expensive overpriced RX drugs with an arm length of side effects

The one guy in the village would like to stop, but once the withdrawal symptoms kick in, his mom gives him money, which seems to be totally wrong.

It's maybe her way of helping him and she might know that he'd take her money anyway.

What's really annoying is the Thai way of not talking about real problems that should be discussed. In this particular village, there's no job available, only one rice harvest a year and life in such an environment can be really boring.

The bigger hospitals in each province offer help and I'm sure that they also have more knowledge on how to deal with a meth addiction.

I truly hope that more will post as I'm somehow trying to help them, but not with money.

Here's some information about the crap:

Thanks for posting. I do not buy Viagra but would deeply appreciate any medicine that's available over the counter to make a meth withdrawal easier.

Thanks a lot

Is your wife working at one of the provincial hospitals? If so, could you please ask her what solutions hospitals have to offer? Thanks a lot in advance.

Jenny2017, I found the English speaking lady who owns the pharmacy shop opposite (left side) the Municipal building on the ‘Bank Rd, Sisaket to be very helpful and knowledgeable. She may be able to give some professional guidance.

Thanks, I'll have a chat with them. It's everywhere, at schools, in villages and elsewhere. But nobody seems to talk about it. To stop with a drug, you first have to admit that you're addicted.

Why not try these boot camps?

The police send them here, but they are not run by the police...they are under medical supervision.

It is certainly possible to volunteer for a treatment there.

As I said above, I have witnessed good results...

We could go back and forth all day on this as we clearly have different views. Boarding school to me reeks of offloading the problem onto someone else and you can't go to boarding school forever.

Of course it's offloading but you after all are paying for the offloading. Moreover, when you can't handle the problem yourself, you need to call in help. The theory is that the kid stays at boarding school until university age when he's more mature and can see prospects that being drug-addicted will preclude. So between "offloading" and doing nothing while the kid continues to steal money and buy drugs, gimme the offloading.

My only point is at 14-15 years old it wouldn't of mattered what anyone said or did I was doing what I wanted to do regardless.

But you couldn't have done that at a boarding school or a camp, like the boot camps referenced in this thread, no matter what you "wanted" to do. At the camp you'd have received orientation so that what you wanted to do would no longer include the drugs. You didn't do any of that and could get away with anything so you did.

As long as the mom helps her son with cash, there's no way to get this guy anywhere.

I haven't even spoken to his mom, nor did I talk to his stepfather. I'm just trying to get the right idea first. Thank you.

Then talk to the local police, or rather have your wife talk to them.

Around the villages, police can be helpful.

One day or another, they will stop the guy for whatever reason, make him piss in a bottle and off he'll go.

There is no soft way to deal with that kind of issue...

Thanks, but cops aren't an alternative, especially not these days with the Rambos in charge.

Then you'll have to wait for the guy to be stopped randomly, as happened to my neighbor...because the villagers won't do anything about it, whatever the potential consequences.

Remember that these same villagers allow their 10 year old children to go to school using their motorbikes, and wearing no helmets!

So it's not a few pills that are going to frighten such a bunch of insouciant fellows...

I've known these people when they were little kids, but I don't think that there's a logical solution to this problem. I'm afraid that they need the right wake up call.

Talking to the one guy's mom, her son doesn't have a drug problem.

Okay, I've got to stop here, you can't help people who don't want help.

A girl / lady in the village 17 has a child looks to be 2. Was sent to for lack of better words the State ran drug rehab hospital. Skinny as a rail prior which was a clue it was drugs. She spent 3 months there and looked healthy when she came back. I said to wife I thought I see the girl from the blues house. Wife said she got out today. When I saw her when I drove by on moto she was back at it. Unfortunately.

I’m a person of curiosity and asked a lot of questions. Wife hates that.

So the girl goes to regular hospital once a month for check and meds.

It’s unbelievable that at the check they don’t piss (drug) test them. Ask them questions In/Out pick up meds on their way. No support group to get to the root cause to help person get better.

Did a little research and couldn’t find any private hospitals/facilities

that offered detox, rehab and support. Anyone seen any?

Asked a guy wh you don’t Thai drink beer instead of Thai whisky. I drink beer and whisky from time to time. I geies Thai whisky once tasted like Chinese Baijiu which and I don’t like either Nasty. Offered Thai whisky many times and politely said no thanks.

The guy said said most farmers are poor and can not afford to buy beer. Thai whisky is cheap and they can get mao easily.

Maybe that’s the reason for cheap drugs to get away from reality temporarily. You see this all over the world in poor communities.

This shithe seems to be everywhere and unfortunately always was. I know that most hospitals have support groups for HIV/AIDS patients, but that seems to be it.

As a matter of fact, if someone wants to quit, it's never good to go back where all other addicts are still waiting. And people must have gone through quite a lot of problems to understand that it's time to quit.

I was looking for a way to help, but when the one boy's mom (he's 19 now) told me that he wouldn't have a drug problem, I made up my mind and decided to stop trying to find a solution.

It might be different would I still live in the village.

The problem of drug abuse in the country. The problem is and fix it. It does not suppress the trade in earnest. Although the law is very harsh. But it still does not make those drug dealers, and the fear of it. The drug is now in the form of new target groups are children and young people even more. It means that the money will go back hugely. Therefore, it is a parent or someone close to take care of children and people close to the best. In order not to get involved in drugs. Even if you find it strange symptoms like an addiction, then caught it. I have observed that once connected to any kind of addiction. Which would be classified as a major following.

1. Symptoms of Substance Abuse of amphetamines (amphetamine).

Because methamphetamine is a drug that can be purchased most easily. There are more affordable And how the drug is not as complicated as other types of drugs because the drugs are popular. Because of the belief that if you abuse it. Is not affiliated Lusty more You can work harder than ever. Symptoms of amphetamine addiction that can be easily observed. There is fatigue, palpitations, slow brain disorders. Have hallucinations, paranoia, mania, but not into drugs. It is a jolly mood Glaucoma is sleepy Having beaten more than ever Dry mouth and lips often lose.

2. Symptoms of Substance Abuse of Ecstasy (has many names such as Lovejoy Adam medicine, etc.).

Ecstasy, also known in the pharmaceutical Love (Love), a drug similar to methamphetamine. But the strength of more than 10 times in addition to sensory stimulation. It also causes hallucinogenic well. We often hear about the ecstasy of the party. Because the drugs into Will be happy, have fun and have a sexual high. (Hence the name of the drug Lovejoy), but no effect on the drug. Eaters are stress , depression, breathing out. Muscle spasm or weakness , insomnia.

3. Symptoms of Substance Abuse of cannabis.

Marijuana is a drug that is found in another country. Because that is popular because it can be grown illegally. And marijuana is a drug that is known to be fun. When a drug into it. Eaters will feel uncomfortable laugh is a cheerful fun for a long time to feel drunk cannabis. The sleepy and fell asleep in the end. But when it wears off It was found that the drug had symptoms, conjunctivitis , diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, similar to the time. Symptoms include thirst, dry throat and shake it. What can and can not decide immediately.

4. Symptoms of drug addiction. of heroin

Heroin is a drug that serious effects than amphetamine many times. Are common And found it among addicts. It may not be as popular as amphetamines. Because of higher prices It also requires a syringe injected into the body. This will leave a trail of evidence the needle area of the body as well. When heroin wears off Patients with symptoms of muscle aches. Headache, vomiting and abdominal pain is severe. With symptoms including chest like a tight cork crunch was so severe suffocation.

5. Symptoms of drug addiction drug types.

Drug are usually found dispersed among teenagers and those who are starting to work more than other ages, because faith is heard later that if the drug ice to the skin even more to make it thinner. pretty good, no odor To make good And would make a good sexual performance. For example, with the famous actor. Or famous athletes used to impersonate. This makes it easy to believe. But the reality on drugs for a long time to find it eaters often have loss of appetite, pale skin dry and scaly skin, similar to a black groping. Or lack of care for a long time. Headaches Palpitations, insomnia, severe brain can not function normally. Which are contrary to what was believed at all.

Hotline and drugs.

If the person close to the original symptoms. And see that he is a drug addict. It should be recommended to get the treatment. In order to stop the drug immediately. Prior to result in physical harm in the long run. It can be treated by contacting organizations and hotlines are as follows.

All I will say to that is boarding school ain't no picnic either bullying, abuse ( physical, mental and sexual) happens at a lot of these places, not to mention dealing with your kids when they get old enough to ask the question why did you bother to have children and then send them to an institution for the majority of their childhood. I know many that went to boarding schools and for most it wasn't a pleasant experience.
